PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL LISTS
----------
I received an email from a MN CC who advised me that the SC for MN has been
missing for quite some time, as has the ASC for the state.
I am attempting to help MN in an effort to get the state and the counties
moving forward and viable. I have attempted to contact the SC, Terri
Shipp, through various ways. My understanding is that she may have been
ill. As such, if you have any contact with or know Terri Shipp, or have
any information about her, I would welcome receiving that information
privately.
We have been searching for Michael Andrews also, who was the ASC, and we
believe we may have located an obituary for him from 2011. We are
attempting to follow up on that also.
So my requests are as follows:
1. Can you provide me with any contact information for Terri other than
what is on the MN site? I have no telephone numbers for her, nor do I know
where she lived.
2. It appears to me that there may be many missing CCs, and as well, many
counties have dates that are long past being updated. If you have any
interest in adopting a county in MN, please send me a private email with
your contact information and what county you might be interested in.
Please be aware that the CCs who contact me and advise that they are
staying with the Project will retain their counties. I'm not looking to
fire anyone. I just want to help the state get back on its feet.
3. If you are interested in volunteering to get a county back on its feet
if I do not hear from a CC, please let me know that you are interested in
being a Temporary CC also so I can put together a list of people who would
like to assist once we determine who is staying and who is leaving or
already left.
Please let me add, that although we definitely want to get to marketing
USGenWeb, as you all know, many researchers have complained because a
county hasn't been updated in ages, or there is no information on a county
site, or whatever their complaint is, we need to get our states and
counties back up and running that have been neglected. Getting these sites
updated will make a huge difference to the researching public's opinion of
our counties and states.
If you are an SC or ASC in a state, please be committed to getting your
state updated if it needs that kind of attention. Begin talking more on
your mail lists. Write privately to a CC in your state that appears to be
dormant. Ask if they need help. Ask if they need materials. Ask how you
can help the CCs and your state can get itself updated where it is needed.
Life gets in the way, and genealogy is not the first priority in everyone's
life. Their health and their families and jobs come before genealogy. We
all need a little help now and then. Some of us need lots of help. Look
to see how you can help. We can do this, but it takes working together and
being aligned with each other in having The USGenWeb Project being the
place to do your research. Content is always more important than
everything else. Web design is fun for many, and we have many who are
excellent designers but the real McCoy is the data.
Okay, I'm off to work for several hours but will be returning late
afternoon.
Let's get these states and counties that need help, the help they need!
Thanks to all of you for everything you do.
