Betty and All,
I use FP 2003. I noticed that MS stopped making FrontPage this year! They replaced it with
two other products mostly for business / commercial use. I'm hanging on to my FP 2003
forever. I'm too old to learn a new HTML program. That means I will not update to
Vista or risk FP2003 not working correctly.
As for a $700 printer not working, the reason you paid that much was to get the best and
to keep it a long time. I'is a shame they pulled the plug on support.
A Mac is sounding better all the time.

Yeah, HP is on my s**t list too. A $700 printer less than two years old is only supported
with bare minimum drivers. It is supposed to be able to print up to 13" x 19"
and duplex. Using their "recommended" replacement drivers, I now can print to a
whopping size of up to 8.5" x 11, and no duplex." All I can get from them is
that if I want to print in larger sizes then I will just have to upgrade to a newer
machine. I don't know about you, but $700 is a lot of money to spend, just to be told,
"Sorry, we don't intend to support your printer, so you will just have to
upgrade." I have purchased my last HP anything - even if my son's father-in-law
is in upper management of that company.

Oh Don, are you SURE you want to go down that road?? LOL!
Now Don - understand, I'm a computer programmer, so I'm not stupid about
computers, but...
I do the website for our local quilt guild. The lady that does the newsletter
had just gotten a new computer - with Vista, sent the newsletter for me to
publish on the web, and because I 'just' have Word 2003, it did all sorts of
nasty things to my software.
My HP scanner (less than a year old) no longer is recognized by the computer,
Frontpage will no longer create a new web site, Frontpage will not open a web
as a web (only way to open it, is to open it locally), Frontpage quit
publishing (I mostly use FTP, but on sites that the users maintain, I used the
publishing) . . . and so on.... (I get several errors that are so cryptic
that there is not any help when you search on it). Oh yeah, for the Word
problem, I'm supposed to download some other update and that will break who
knows what else on my computer.
I know I have an outdated machine, it's 2 years old. But, I don't want to be
'forced' to upgrade. If I buy a new computer now, it will be a Mac.

Who lives about 2 miles from HP, and am ready to go throw their scanner onto
their lovely campus with a nasty note attached.

After all the email on this subject I don't know whether to stick my neck
out or not.
As your local Microsoft representative (yes, I work for Microsoft's legal
department), if you have any real problems with vista or any other MS
product let me know and I'm quite willing to get you in touch with people
who can solve it for you. Please understand that all other vendors had more
than 2 years notice of what they needed to do to port their software to the
higher security that vista offers, and many still haven't started on it. MS
can't solve the problem of other vendors not wanting to provide their
customers with a more secure computing environment.

Pauli,
I suppose I'm lucky, I still have a PC under XP! My
notebook (under vista) is supposed to be my research
one, I hope it does the job. Your experiance is
valuable, and disappointing. but I hope to survive the
experiance myself.

You may not want to get me started on Vista! LOL! I

Actually, once you figure out where everything is,
along with their new
names, Vista, on the surface anyway, isn't that bad.
It seems to run welll -
on my computer anyway - seems rather stable, and the
graphics are good. That
is the good stuff.
Now onto my complaints.
Only one of my three printers will work at full
capicity with it. Neither
one of my scanners have fully operational drivers.
That is the fault of HP
who in their wisdom and greediness, has decided not
to support my rather new
printers with Vista. I also found out a few days ago
that if I use the
Window's burn to disk option to burn a CD (since my
older Nero software
won't run on vista), that unless the printer has
Vista on their machines,
they can't see the files. And yes, Norton 2006 won't
run on Vista so now I
have to go out and buy a new version.
My Microsoft Office 2003 does seem to run just fine
as does my Adobe CS2
programs. My Vista ready webcam on the other hand,
while it seems to work,
keeps asking for me to install flash at every turn,
even when I'm not using
it, which is most of the time. I install the latest
version of Flash and the
computer reboots and Flash is once again gone.
(Re-booting is required, it
seems to finish the installation). Who knows what
the problem there is. A
lot of my older programs no longer work on Vista,
even if they managed to
work on XP. The security boxes are a pain, but
usually only show up - albeit
repeatedly - when you are trying to install
something.
I really miss the up arrow, which seems to have
disappeared in most of the
dialog windows. I also like the favorites menu that
you can drag shortcuts
to your most used directories. I also like the way
that if you run your
cursur over your minimised boxes in the tool bar, a
miniature image pops up,
somewhat like the Mac's do. That is cool, but I
could take that or leave it.
Did I say that I really miss the up arrow? <G>
