There are several options to having rootsweb counters. If you
look at most websites our side of ours you will see that nearly none have
counters any more. I use
http://hitslog.com/ which is the little
rectangle image at the bottom of my personal and county sites. It uses a
Java script and has a non Java script option to track your pages and gives
a lot more information than a plain counter.
Others are Google analytics

I've also heard of sitemeter and I'm sure there are others. I
have an addon to Firefox called no script which blocks unauthorized scripts
and one of the ones I block is Google analytics.. They know enough about me
as it is, I don't want them tracking my web visits.
