<< Hi everyone,
Renee Bunck, our CC for Dodge County NEGenWeb Project announced
something today that I thought you all might be able to use. You can
convert several surnames to soundex at one time with it. If you use it,
you might want to be sure to include a link back to Moishe Miller's
site, so that the explanations are available. I have her permission to
send this information on:
If you are interested in a program to convert a list of names to
Soundex
coding, I modified an existing Javascript program to allow a list on
names instead of a single names. The original program is located at
http://www.ics.uci.edu/~dan/genealogy/Miller/javascrp/soundex.htm and is
complete with good explanations about variations on soundex coding.
I have permission from Moishe Miller, the author of the original program,
to
offer the modified program for
general use. soundexlist.htm is located at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nedodge/transfer/soundexlist.htm
and includes a link to the original program and explanations.
I sent a copy of my modified version before I posted it. Moishe has
encouraged us to copy the original program, also. You are welcome to
copy my modified version anywhere you like and share it with anyone - it
was meant to be a tool. It is fast, because it is Javascript and runs
on your computer - no internet access or special server needed. My
"quick & dirty" version includes no graphic files or anything pretty so
that only the soundexlist.htm file is needed. I'd be interested to know
how it works on a MAC or WebTV.
