Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Don Stanwyck,
I'm really glad to hear from you, Don.
I've owned MS products forever. But 45 seconds ago-literally, I was on a Mac forum seeking information about Macs. I think there is building resentment that MS comes out with new software every 3 or 4 years making existing hardware and software obsolete. My next computer may be a Mac if I can get away from the problems. They may be just as bad, I do not know.
Yes, I do realize that some software makers have not kept up with the new developments at MS. I bought a graphic card a couple of weeks ago. I noticed that some cards by the same company said VISTA ready and some did not. The ones that did not have the VISTA ready notice on the box were selling for one fourth to on half normal price. A person can get burned if they do not pay attention to what they are buying.
The new tool bars for Excel and Word 2007 are like a maze. For instance, the Spelling utility and the Thesaurus utility are on different tool bars in Word! Word has seven different tool bars or tabs to find a specific utility.
I appreciate your input on this subject, Don. I do hope MS works more closely with venders in the future by supplying patches to make older programs and hardware work. Meanwhile, I will keep my computer running for as long as possible by replacing failed parts including the motherboard because I do not want to update ever again.
Have a great day,
Charles Barnum

My HP scanner (less than a year old) no longer is recognized by the computer,
Frontpage will no longer create a new web site, Frontpage will not open a web

publishing (I mostly use FTP, but on sites that the users maintain, I used the

that there is not any help when you search on it). Oh yeah, for the Word
problem, I'm supposed to download some other update and that will break who

Yeah, HP is on my s**t list too. A $700 printer less than two years old is only supported with bare minimum drivers. It is supposed to be able to print up to 13" x 19" and duplex. Using their "recommended" replacement drivers, I now can print to a whopping size of up to 8.5" x 11, and no duplex." All I can get from them is that if I want to print in larger sizes then I will just have to upgrade to a newer machine. I don't know about you, but $700 is a lot of money to spend, just to be told, "Sorry, we don't intend to support your printer, so you will just have to upgrade." I have purchased my last HP anything - even if my son's father-in-law is in upper management of that company.

Pauli,
I suppose I'm lucky, I still have a PC under XP! My
notebook (under vista) is supposed to be my research
one, I hope it does the job. Your experiance is
valuable, and disappointing. but I hope to survive the
experiance myself.

You may not want to get me started on Vista! LOL! I just got a new computer
and Vista came pre-loaded.
Actually, once you figure out where everything is, along with their new
names, Vista, on the surface anyway, isn't that bad. It seems to run welll -
on my computer anyway - seems rather stable, and the graphics are good. That
is the good stuff.
Now onto my complaints.
Only one of my three printers will work at full capicity with it. Neither
one of my scanners have fully operational drivers. That is the fault of HP
who in their wisdom and greediness, has decided not to support my rather new
printers with Vista. I also found out a few days ago that if I use the
Window's burn to disk option to burn a CD (since my older Nero software
won't run on vista), that unless the printer has Vista on their machines,
they can't see the files. And yes, Norton 2006 won't run on Vista so now I
have to go out and buy a new version.
My Microsoft Office 2003 does seem to run just fine as does my Adobe CS2
programs. My Vista ready webcam on the other hand, while it seems to work,
keeps asking for me to install flash at every turn, even when I'm not using
it, which is most of the time. I install the latest version of Flash and the
computer reboots and Flash is once again gone. (Re-booting is required, it
seems to finish the installation). Who knows what the problem there is. A
lot of my older programs no longer work on Vista, even if they managed to
work on XP. The security boxes are a pain, but usually only show up - albeit
repeatedly - when you are trying to install something.
I really miss the up arrow, which seems to have disappeared in most of the
dialog windows. I also like the favorites menu that you can drag shortcuts
to your most used directories. I also like the way that if you run your
cursur over your minimised boxes in the tool bar, a miniature image pops up,
somewhat like the Mac's do. That is cool, but I could take that or leave it.
Did I say that I really miss the up arrow? <G>

Jan,
That is funny! I needed that.
I've had a few problems with Office 2007. I did not buy Vista, however.
Excel 2007 was almost impossible to use. I finally found most of the commands. They hid them all over the place. The same for Word 2007.
I think my problem is now solved for the map thing. I will start the AZ map tomorrow. But Adobe Photoshop is out the window. It just does not like Office 2007. Three must be a file conflict somewhere.
I'd like to hear of any problems you have with Vista. I may buy it someday.

Good Morning,
If it's not one thing,
I bought MS Office 2007, Home version.
I activated OneNote and discovered that my Adobe PhotoShop Delux 4.0 no longer worked. It worked fine before I activated OneNote. I downloaded all the updates I could find, but that did to fix the problem.
I uninstalled Adobe Photoshop Delux and tried to re-install it. My computer refused to install it.
So, I'm stuck for now for map work. I'm trying to learn Coral Paint shop Pro 10. I've been unable to use it like Adobe for the maps.
If any of y'all are computer savvy and can fix my program conflict please let me know.
I think I can use the Clone brush in Coral to do the same thing. I just need to learn it.
Snowed in Reno Last night -- all that global warming!

Yes, it was Jefferson. Take a look at the site. I have an ASC, Terry

Vicki,
Lee's map looks like all counties should look. Nice job.
I have some fancy mapping software, but its over my head. I'm not going there.
I hope Lee does all of the counties someday.
I like the big State map because it shows all of the counties at one glance. The drawback is it is not to scale and does not have lat. and longitude and therefore is not accurate.
If I had a state map with major roads on it. I could do a better job. But I actually do not want to start over if such a public domain map exists somewhere.

Hi Charles,
Here's the link for the correct cemeteries of Phillips County (thanks to Lee
Zion). Looks like you've been busy!

Thank you, Polly, Bless you.
I used a source that showed the cemeteries on a map. All of the sources showed different numbers of cemeteries.
But like I said, I will correct any county, all I need is a map with the dots. I did the best I could.
Oh, one source showed 94 cemeteries on a particular county. I only used 25 from COGenWeb source. Putting 94 dots on there would be a nightmare. I think that was Larimare County.
Have a great evening.

Wow Charles!
I have to admit, I've been so busy that I haven't had time to pay much attention to what you were doing until now. I see that you have 20 dots for cemeteries in Weld County, I have 38 listed on my cemetery index page.
http://hollyhockfarms.com/coweld/cemetery/weldcem.htm.
I have 37 listed for Boulder County at: http://hollyhockfarms.com/coboulder/Cemeteries/cemeteries.htm<http://hollyhockfarms.com/coboulder/Cemeteries/cemeteries.htm>
Thanks for all your hard work! I for one am impressed.

Subject: [COGEN] Maps and cemeteries
Howdy,
http://www.rootsweb.com/~cokitcar/cemeterymap.htm<http://www.rootsweb.com/~cokitcar/cemeterymap.htm>
I dropped everything and finished the cemetery map.
Las Animas was difficult. One source showed 52 cemeteries. I found two of those in other counties!!
I think some must of had more than one name. Who Knows.
Anyway. If you want your county changed, send me a map with the dots in the right place and I'll change it. I suggest you cut out your county and a couple of adjacent ones from the Rand Road map book for that purpose. I'll give you my address so you can send the corrections to me. (I can correct the map in about 20 minutes if I have a corrected county image.)
Have a good one.
