Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Here is what I received. It looks like it could be interesting. I haven't
had time to check it out, but what I read did pique my curiosity.
Let me know what you think...

Hello,
Here is the first CO Cemetery map.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~cokitcar/cemeterymap.htm
It has Kit Carso Co. only.
I'll try to add one county per day unless new submissions come in on some other site.
You may not care to use it. Your choice.
One problem is a cemetery having more than one name. it will get two dots.
Oh, the big dot at the bottom is a control dot. I can remove it later.
Have a great evening,
Charles
So everyone doesn't have to ask.
I still have the master public land survey map files for the images I did
for: Morgan, Saguache, Mineral, Montezuma, Montrose and Larimer. I
remember doing one for Delta but apparently didn't keep my master.
Lee
I have got them too. I just delete them.

I did a three county Denver/Adams/Arapahoe public land survey range/township
location map five years ago for Leona using a public domain map from the
Census Tiger Mapping server. Those maps were great because they show the
road net as well as towns. I see that Adams is the only county still using
it.
Since I still have the master image, it would be easy to delete the survey
layer(s) and knock out a three county - Adams, Arapahoe, Denver cemetery map
for you to use in addition to Charles' state level cemetery locator. It
will be busy but we can use oversize cemetery icons to make them show.
For a scale/color sample I copied one of your pages and added the 2002 three

Vikki,
I'm having to start CO over.
The single County maps look terrible.
I will do the entire state instead.
Here is the finished product for NM:
http://nmroots.com/nm_cemeterymaps.htm
A stand alone county map looks like scribbling.
I have five new cemeteries to get online today. So, I'll start the CO map tomorrow.
I have the CO State Map already made. (the blank)
It took me a month to do NM. I can publish updates as I proceed so you can see what it looks like. Once done, they can be edited easily. The hard part is getting all the cemeteries marked in about the right place.
Have a great day,
Charles

I have learned how to do better cemetery maps this since starting. Practice makes perfect.
These maps may be of no practical value, but I always wondered where cemeteries were. This gives researchers a quick-glance view.
By using a highway map in conjunction with this map it is fairly easy to find the cemeteries.
One problem I encountered is that a cemetery will have more than one name or a local name not found on any other map.

Don,
That type of work your did Is labor intensive.
Finding a Public Domian map to start with would be requied unless you are a great graphics designer.
I did buy a fancy graphics program but I do not use it. I went back to basic Adobe Photo Shop as it is easier to use.

Thank you. Considering how many cemeteries there are, even just one county
is huge for just one days work. A few years ago I did township maps with
locations of land grants and cemeteries, for just one county in Arkansas,
and that took three months.
However the township files are heavily visited which says YES, it was worth
the effort. Dozens have located the land of their first settlers on my maps,
and that is a feel good position to be in.
Thanks again,
Don

Ray,
I need to know if we want individual county maps with cemeteries or one inclusive state map.
With the state map I am limited what I can put on it as there is little room even for numbers. On a county map I can make it bigger and add numbers and some names of towns.
In NM I have several maps available to me with cemeteries marked on them. In Colorado, I have most of the cemetery names but not all of the locations.
Like "Nunn Ranch Cemetery." I do not know where Nunn ranch is.
If I knew Nunn Ranch Cemetery is 3 miles east of some town, then I can put it on the map.
So, that is how you can help, get a list of cemeteries in your county and tell me where they are, not by Latitude and longitude, but by town or so many miles east / west of a specific town. (remember the maps are not to scale, but I can get close.) Some towns have more than one cemetery too. Santa Fe NM has 14 !!
My original plan was to number the dots and have a side-bar of names of cemeteries and directions on how to drive to them. We can do that too. I doubt I have time to make side bars for every county. In NM there are over 2200 cemeteries so it was beyond my capacity to write directions to all 2200 of them!
I'll do Kit Carson Co. that way, but it is probably over my head to do all of the CO counties with a side bar. Each CC can easily add that, however, for their own county. We can get fancy and link each side bar to the cemetery survey too if one has been submitted. I can make it a hot links map too, but I'd rather not get into that right now. (like click a dot and go to that cemetery survey.)
I have access to all public domain county outline maps in CO so that is not a problem. Finding a bit of time is, I now have 8 more counties to do in NM. I have 1000 photos coming in for another county next week, so that knocks my free time down. --1000 photos will slap me down for about 7 days.
