Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Don,
Their plan is to keep the site as it is. They have their own website for the
society, and anything that they have for sale, will be on that site, not the
CoGenWeb site. They just feel that because they have so many records that
they are an obvious choice to adopt the site. I think that they will do a
good job with Boulder County.
As for finally defined parameters, I am fine with that. I have worked hard
on the Boulder site, and hate to give it up, but with my schedule right now,
I just don't have the time to take care of two sites, and I live in Weld
county, had that site for 9 years. Of the two, Boulder is the obvious one to
let go.
I did tell Gail and Sundee that I am willing to hang onto Boulder a while
longer if necessary, if it appears that they are not willing to abide by
GenWeb guidelines.

Gail,
I questioned that myself, but never pursued it. They were on the list as
being interested in adopting, so I contacted them after I announced I needed
to give Boulder up, and cc'd everything to Sundee. She didn't seem to have a
problem with them adopting the site, and was going to get things set up with
Rootsweb, but that got delayed due to her hospitalization.
I'm willing to hold onto Boulder a while longer until we can be assured that
their intentions are "pure." If it isn't, then we can look for someone else.
They do have their own domain name and website for their association. I
think that occurred after I adopted Boulder County around the time that they
first expressed interest in adopting Boulder.
I have put a lot of time and effort into Boulder, and would continue keeping
it if I could, but my life is too busy right now to do it justice. Even Weld
county (where I actually live) is starting to suffer. I want to be able to
focus more on Weld county.
I have contacted Cari, who is the person I've been corresponding with. When
I hear back from her, I'll let you know,
Pauli

Good points Gail. We have been there and done that and it was we recall a
hard balancing act. At a minimum we need finely defined parameters to avoid
future misunderstandings.

Boulder county is in the process of being adopted by the Boulder County
Genealogical Society. Just waiting for Sundee to get back so we can get them
on board and get the website transferred to a Rootsweb server from mine.

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you know that Larimer County, Colorado is up for adoption. Since I don't live up that way I thought it would be better to have someone who does or at least has family ties up there. I don't anymore.
I would like to keep my acc status for El Paso County, CO if it is ok with Sundee.

It is my understanding that you need to put the address in the
Accept List, it is under the Privacy option, Accept List on the management
page.
It was already in mine I think as ^gc-gateway(a)rootsweb.com
It is taking several hours for messages I have posted to coalamos
to come back across the list and one I forwarded to the list about what
Rootsweb is doing has not come back at all yet..
What I would like to do is some how get the messages boards for
the six counties of the San Luis Valley to post their messages to the
Coalamos list since it is being used as the CO-SLV list and I have closed
the coriogra list to subscriptions and the COMINERA list has been co opted
by another group all together... It is senseless to have 6 different lists
for the counties in SLV when one would be more than sufficient for people
interested in genealogy of the SLV. The Coconejo board still says that
COMINERA is being used as the all valley list which is incorrect. It was
change to coalamos several years ago when COMINERA was co opted for another
groups use, the owner of COMINERA banned me from the list..
I would also like to ask the coordinators of Conejos and Mineral
counties to note on their pages that the Coalamos list is being used as the
list for the whole valley. The other counties have this already and they
are the only two out of the six which are not. They have new coordinators
and may not have known why things were set up the way they were.

I have a question about the new mailing lists. My CoWeld list has been migrated and now messages that are posted on the Ancestry message board, while still being gatewayed to my list, appear to be stopped by the spam filter. The message seems to be that the person who posted on the message board is a non-member and cannot post to the mailing list.
Is this a bug that they are still working out, or something that I am going to have to deal with on a daily basis?
Anyone know?
Pauli
