Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi, All! I'm hoping that one of you might be able to assist this gentleman.
I sent him MANY links, but neither of us think that he will find the EXACT
location from any of them. I suggested the FAA, but since this was a
military aircraft . . .
Thanks!

Karen, I had been discussing finding out about a University serer with Don.
He offered to contact the University of Colorado for us. I had just got his
report back on this today.
I will be letting all of the CC's know about things as Don reports them to
me. I think we can set up mirror sites to start, or if a CC prefers can move
the county site if they wish. I would suggest doing this slow to allow for
visitors to update bookmarks et.
I am not going to push any of the CC's to move their pages as long as they
are comfortable with where they are now. I am not going to encourage one
server over another, as I believe that is up to the CC to decided.

I started moving my sites over there last December. As
each one runs out (from Interland - which had about 4
price increases in 6 months)I'm switching them over.
I've moved 4 sites over and have 3 left (which all run
out in the next month or so). They DON'T have 24 hour
phone support, but have never had to call them, except
once when I couldn't get my DSN to work (the access db
corrupted as it was ftp'd). VERY friendly customer
service.
Go read their page. I comparisoned shopped quite abit.
Have had no down-times that I know of, and pages seem to
load quickly. They limit the number of webs on a
server, and do load-balancing so that a 'hog' doesn't
steal all the bandwidth.

I'm using ReadyHosting for my other sites. They were
doing $99/year, then each one you added after that was
reduced by about 1/2. When I add a new URL, only costs
about $42 year. It's an NT server, unlimited emails,
Access Database, supports FrontPage extensions and so on.

My husband and I use NetIdentity for our bird pages (under construction).
They are also my email service provider. You might want to take a look at
their site as the prices vary. http://www.netidentity.com/
I know that I'm very happy with the service, but after using AOL for five
year ANYTHING would be an improvement.

I checked out their site and asked them a few questions. I like what I see
and they will let me have all the child sites under my domain name that I
like without additional charges. I also sent the URL to my brother who is
much wiser about these things than I am and he seems to feel that they are a
great deal. I have decided to transfer my domain over to them when it comes
up for renewal from Web Panache next month.
Thanks for the info. It will latterly save me $135.00 a year. Not small
change for me. <G>

You're going to leave a big hole, Laurie, one that not just any "body" will
be able to fill. Just, please, don't be a stranger. You HAVE been a big
part of making genealogical and internet history, and there are fewer and
fewer of the "96ers" still around. <sigh>
Best of luck in all that you do now and in the future.
