Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Good morning Mary Ann,
THANK YOU for the warm wishes, I really do appreciate it. The prognosis at
this point is very good, even more so than the doctor thought. I am just so
thankful that I don't have to go through radiation and chemo again, my head
gets cold when I'm bald <very big grin>. You take care and keep up the good
work that you have been doing on your end.
Big warm hugs,
Karen
P.S. I assume that the mess over the Talpa Cemetery has calmed down and I'm
so sorry you had to be drug into it. Please accept my apologies. I have
written to Lee once more to try to correct a few errors on the Cemetery
Listing pages and hope I didn't upset him all over again.

Good morning Leona,
THANK YOU so very much for your thoughts and prayers, I sure appreciate it.
As you saw in my note to the List, I am doing well and even the doctor was
very pleased with the results of surgery. Now, it is just a healing process
that will take time. The stitches come out on Friday and I can hardly wait,
they're driving me nuts, but I am ever so thankful of the prognosis and for
friends like you.
Warm hugs,
Karen

HI folks,
Karen Mitchell with Huerfano County checking in. I am still waiting for my
automatic stat report to come in for the month of December, it's late. So I
apologize for not having a total for you.
I did not keep a manual count for the month due to the Holidays, birthdays,
anniversaries and now my recent surgery.
But Huerfano COunty is still up and running good.
For any of you that were interested in the headstone theft we have recently
been working on, the investigation is still continuing and we are getting
alot of publicity from it. So far the story has ran in the Huerfano World,
Trinidad Plus and Denver Post. We hope to not only recover the stones but to
start educating the public so that this does not continue to happen. If
anyone wants particulars, send me a note and I will tell you what all I can.
Beings I didn't get to say it before...Happy New Year to all of you and I
hope we can continue a good association with all of the Colorado volunteers.
I say THANK YOU to all of you that sent me warm wishes, prayers, and healing
thoughts during my recent surgery. This just proved to me that we ARE a big
family that cares about each other. On the receiving end, you have no idea
how all the moral support has helped me get through this. THANKS!!!

Good for you! I wish I could get the things done I want to get done!
I have 3 1900 and 3 1910 CO census CD's. NONE have been
transcribed, but I have started a couple of times.
Great Work!

La Veta headstones missing

Good morning fellow Coordinators,
Awhile back I told all of you about the situation in La Veta, Colorado about
the stones from the Willis Cemetery being stolen and used for stepping
stones. This is an update and a plea for assistance.
I spoke with Sheriff John Salazar of Walsenburg yesterday and the
investigation is continuing on the Willis Cemetery. Hopefully real soon we
will have some resolution of that situation. I was also interviewed by the
Denver Post because they want to do a story about this. We are getting some
National attention and have received offers of help from all directions.
People's feelings run pretty strong on this type of situation. Again, I want
to reiterate Louise's position on this. This is not just about retrieving
her families headstones. It is also about educating the public about what is
going on. If we can save one cemetery from being desecrated or vandalized,
and if we can teach one child to honor the resting place of our ancestor's,
it's all worth it. There are alot of things going on behind the scenes that
we are not able to disclose due to the ongoing investigation, but you have
my assurance that things are happening and you will know about it first. And
again, I thank all of you that have offered your moral support and warm
thoughts. Louise has taken an emotional battering over this but has stood
strong in her convictions. If you have "right" on your side, don't be afraid
to stand up and face the lions. It never matters "who"is right, only "what"
is right.
If any of you have found a similar situation or a case of vandalism in your
Counties I would sure appreciate hearing from you. I need to document all of
this. Also, the Denver Post wants to do a story on the situation and I would
like to include comments from any of you, if you wish. We need all the data
we can get in order to bring this to the attention of the public and
hopefully get some stronger laws enacted to protect our ancestors burial
grounds.
Even if you don't want to be quoted PLEASE send me your comments on cemetery
desecration, vandalism, and neglect.
Thanks!
Karen Mitchell

Consider this my Roll Call answer: Custer County is here.
I have just moved (again!) and am sick (my body thought it would like my
1 year olds cold), but am trying to keep up with some of my slower lists,
including this one. There is now an organization in Indiana which has gone
before the state legislature and gotten a cemetery protection law passed.
The address for their webpage is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inpcrp/. There
is also a link for Colorado on that page, but I don't have time right now to
check it out. I have to run to work.. The coordinator for this effort is
Lois Mauk, the CC for Clark Co., IN. The work she has done and the efforts
she has taken are astonishing, as are the results!

Here are the stats for December for my websites:
Chaffee 245 hits
Garfield 250 hits
Moffat 64 hits

Hits were down for all sites in Dec - probably due to the holidays.

Thanks Karen & Lee for the digital camera advice!
Yes, Lee, guess I'll stick with my current camera for the documents because it does an excellent job. The high range cameras are definitely out of my range! No-one has been that generous in their donations! <g>
If anyone has specific low range cameras they are happy with, I would appreciate you e'ing me directly with the brands, etc.
Karen, I'm proud of you for following through on the headstone situation! Would you let us know when an interview will be in the Denver Post? I don't subscribe but would like to read it when it comes out. Maybe they will have it online?

Hi, Everyone!
Just in case you didn't catch the change in my E-mail address yesterday when
Mary Ann did her thing here on the list. I have changed servers and will be
leaving AOL as soon as I've made all the changes to my various web pages.
That means, of course, that you need to change my addy on your pages, too.
I'm really sorry about asking you all to do this again.
Thanks for understanding!

Over the past couple years I've received some very good advice from many of you, so I'm trying again!
When I do lookups I only request reimbursement for copies and postage. But I'm finding more and more that many of the recipients are sending an extra dollar or two - some even more. I've been using the excess to cover the expenses for those who don't send anything for my expenses.
Now this "fund" is starting to build and I would like to put it to a use that would benefit everyone. I have a dream of taking photos of all the headstones in Phillips County and having them posted to our project. I receive many requests for photos and I'm terrible about getting the film developed - thought a digital camera might just be the solution.
This fund isn't huge, so I need to look for something on the low end of prices. The photos I'll take will most likely be used exclusively for posting on the Internet or sending by email. Not only close-ups of headstones, but possibly photos of documents that I can't photocopy or scan and send to researchers.
I've found a couple sites with some generic information, but would appreciate information on your personal experiences with your digital cameras.
Thanks!
