Okay gals and guys. Marsha sent me a photo. It is
Gray's Peak,from Summit of Mt.McClellan,Colorado,Altitude 14,007 Ft.,
Argentine Central Ry... Anyone know what county it would fall under? Would
it be one of the following? I say Clear Creek.
Clear Creek
Dolores
San Miguel or
Summit
Addie
Gray's Peak (and Torrey's Peak) are on the border of Summit and Clear Creek
(as far as I recall). I've climbed them both.

Mt McClellan is in Clear Creek County (by less than a mile) about a mile
north of Argentine Pass as the bird flies.
Mt McClellan (13,587 feet) is the first peak on the ridge that extends
northeast from Mt Edwards toward Silver Plume. According to my map the view
of Gray's Peak (14,270 feet) 2 miles away should be pretty good with Torreys
Peak (14,267 feet) just to the right in the very near background.
I don't know where the 14,007 ft altitude fits in? It doesn't match
anything in the immediate area on my map or on my list of 14ers.

I had two search engines implemented for the archives. The old ISearch
still works so keyword search access to the files is still available.
With a bit over a 1000 donated document pages in the Colorado Archives,
Atomz costs too much to implement there but it looks interesting (No
Advertising!) for the other four parts of the project.
Thanks!

I was so upset by your message, Karen, that I couldn't gather my thoughts

both of us. Thanks, Vicki.

Go get 'em, Karen! This is outrageous. Even if by some chance they are
headstones of HIS ancestors, it's still wrong and shows a tremendous
disrespect for the dead. Is there any hope that this isn't true???
How about contacting the network news stations and getting them looking into
this? They wouldn't be intimidated by a "prominent resident" and if you
impress on them the growing interest in FAMILY history research you might be
able to peak their interest - especially if you can connect with someone who
has our addiction.
What about the Colorado Historical Society and the Colorado Genealogical
Society and any local genealogy group. Find out what the state and/or local
statutes are and contact the local law enforcement. Unfortunately, if this
was some time ago they might not be able to do anything, but it's worth a
try. Can you find out WHO the headstones belong to and trace descendants????
THAT might prove interesting and helpful.

Karen,
Go for it: In Missouri at my wife's families graves the headstones were moved to
the fence row and the graves plowed and planted all because these graves were in
the middle of the farmers field. It has since become illegal to do such in
Missouri, and should be everywhere.

Good morning fellow coordinators,
I have a situation here that I would like some opinions and advise on.
Beings we are in the midst of a large cemetery reading/photo indexing of the
cemeteries, I just found out about this.
In Huerfano County there is the Wahatolla Cemetery. Evidently a few years
ago a very prominent resident there was landscaping his garden and wanted
something unusual. He took the headstones from the cemetery and is using
them as stepping stones in his garden. Beings he is a prominent citizen no
one stopped him. I am outraged over this. I believe grave robbing is a crime
in the State of Colorado and plan to contact the Attorney General's office
in Denver when I find out more of the particulars. This is a tremendous
desecration of our heritage. I can only wonder how the descendants of those
ancestors feel, if they know.
I would like input from all of you and advise, if any of you have any.

See Doc's note below:
HtDig is also called GenSeeker so, if you use it, your RootsWeb GenSeeker
county page searches may also be broken. The COYuma search is still working
(fingers crossed) but the CO Archives search bombs.

Guess after almost two years, I haven't made it to "The List" yet - no Voter
ID for me. The last time we were voting I never did receive the ballot or
whatever [if I had received it, I would probably remember how we voted and
what it was for <grin>]. Can you find out what the problem is, Mary Ann, and
get it cleared up?
Thanks!

I don't subscribe to any of the USGenWeb "All" lists so I don't know what is
going on with the USGenWeb election. The last note I remember seeing on
this list was "hold everything" we are having troubles with the ballots.
The "official" election URL http://elsi123.august.net/~usgenweb/ only lets
me vote on two of the three proposed amendments to the bylaws.
Question 1: Are the troubles cleared up?
Question 2: Why aren't we voting on the "States Rights" amendment?
Lee
>>
Sorry I should have passed on that you could continue voting if you want. The
States Rights amendment did not get enough States to sponsor it to be added
to the ballot this year.
There are still some SC's and CC's that are concerned about the new Voting
method. I have been waiting to see what was going on about it. Don't let that
stop you from voting if you want to go ahead
If anyone did not get a voter ID let me know so I can send a note to the EC.
Thanks
