My most sincere and happy apologies to Ray!! I am so glad to learn that there were 2 Ray Porters, both dedicated to genealogical research, and that "our" Ray is alive and well.
This proves to me once again that no matter how the dots, logic and what appears to be evidence add up, I can be so wrong in my conclusions.
Peggy

Contrary to all the evidence presented, I am still alive and well living in Texas. I have not been active in the past few years, but will begin anew the pursuit of long lost ancestors.
Billy Ray Porter was probably not a relative but I still extend my condolences to his family as a brother Porter and fellow human

I am considering asking a cousin to take the Y DNA test to help establish lineage.
Does someone, know however, if there is a data base going for the Cogburns? and is it active/large enough this would be beneficial for me at this time?
Any input would be very appreciated. Thanks.

It appears from information at the link below that our dear friend and expert genealogist, Ray Porter, has passed away.
http://www.estesfuneralhome.com/gpage.html
The obituary states that Ray died Sunday November 2, 2014 at Holston Valley Hospital surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Ray has been the best of guides for so many of us who are trying to trace the trail of our ancestors back through time to their beginning in America.
I extend my most sincere condolences to Ray's family and friends.
Peggy (Cogburn) Wingfield
