according to my records william was son of john wesley cogburn who was son of patrick cogburn, henry's brother. john died in 1868 as a result of injuries incurred during incarceration at camp ford in texas. his wife filed a minor pension claim for william and john franklin. there are extensive records in that file including many witnesses.

Ever so often I decide it is once again beat-my-head-against-the-brick-wall time! I've hit a deadend on my Cogburn line for so long. In reading this thread, which I have read some of these posts before I know, including from dear Don Cother who was always so sweet to try to help me, I find little bits and pieces that once again sound as though could be clues. My Grt-GF was a William I. Cogburn; my mother has always said his name was Wm Isaiah but the relative who provided info for his death cert. said Wm. Isaac. He is not the Wm Issac in these posts as mine married Jennie Teresa Davis; my Wm was born 10 yr later than this one also (also in AR). This Wm's mother was Alyora White; mine was also a White -- Luiza/Liza/Luisa Amanda White. One of these posts made reference to twins, and an elderly cousin out in west TX (this Winters mentioned in these posts is that possibly Winters TX??) said she thought my Wm's father was a twin (who died young or at birth). But it is the Dolly t!
hat catches my eye this time; my grandmother, Wm's daughter was named Dollie, different spelling but same name nonetheless, or close enough I wonder was it a family name? She was born in Merkel TX where my grt-gf came as a child with his mother and his step-father Adam Whisenhunt; he was born after his own father died. All of his siblings are Whisenhunts and we have never been able to find his father's name nor any info on the line for sure, often we find promising clues but I've never been able to document his family. When he was 8 he was in Howard Co AR with his mother and step-dad (wrongly identified as a Whisenhunt) but do not know for sure where in AR he was born April 1872. This would place his father's death date somewhere between July 1871 and April 1872 but I've never found a line with a Cogburn who died in that timeframe leaving behind a young widow of about 18 yr old pregnant with their first child; an elderly great aunt since deceased thinks it was an accident (!
possibly involving a horse) rather than an illness. I'm about to embar
k on this journey again! so when I saw these, thought I'd begin here by posting a reply and then go on from there to see if I might find something new. Any clues or suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Sandra

yes, Aunt Dolly and uncle Wilson lived in Winters. Aunt Dolly always had sweats and baked goods. She would always tell me I had to eat something first or worms would crawl from my nose.
