Dorothy,
I am g granddaughter of George Washington Cogburn, James Lafayette's brother. I had James as married to Elizabeth Kendrick, a relative of GW's wife Matilda Kendrick. I think I got that from a census but it's been a while.
I haven't worked on any of it since my husband died in 2001, too busy going back to college and making a living.
Is it possible he had two wives? I've found one of my gggrandfathers who went through three...
I came across another valuable database at work (I work for the Dept of Interior as a secretary)
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/
James L Cogburn has two land patents listed in there, with a scan of the original!! both in Montgomery County, 19982 and 1900 AR1430__.006 and AR2800__.276 Wonderful to see original signatures and information. Hope this adds!
Blessings, cousin,
Sharon in Oregon
