I am seeking information on Thomas "Cockburn" in 1860 & '70 Rusk Co, TX census, age 12 & 21 respectively. If the 21 yr old, listed from TX w/wife 16 yr old Amanda from TX, is the same as the 12 yr old he would be the son of Headley & Eliza J. from NC & TN. I cannot seem to find this Thomas after '70 and wonder if he might be the grt-grt gf I seek who would have gone to Arkansas and died prior to April 26 1872 when his son/my grt gf Wm. I. Cogburn was born. Wm's mother was Louisa AMANDA b. 1854 TX supposedly east TX. Would someone have info on the above Thomas, perhaps whether or not he would have died between 1870 & 72? or any information that would help me with this theory one way or the other?

I have a photo from my grandmother's picture box I'm wondering if someone might help identify if I email to them. Years ago I heard the story of her corresponding with her Uncle George Cogburn...who supposedly had a gold mine! -- has anyone heard a story to this effect concerning this George Cogburn or another? I don't know if she later heard he had died, or he just quit writing or how this story ended. Some time back I was told my Grt GF Cogburn had been visited in Taylor Co, TX by his Uncle George who was running from the law; later read accounts of Little George and wondered if they might be one in the same! He also supposedly had an Uncle Andy; different things like this have made me speculate on the possibility we could tie into Henry Cogburn's line but I've never documented this nor disproved it for that matter. Some time back I came across this photo inscribed on the back "Dearest Uncle George". Some have spoken of visiting with Mitchell "Rooster" Cogburn who I think !
was his son? I'm hoping someone might have a photo of Little George, or could show this to Mitchell or someone else who would know to verify or disprove my theory once and for all. I've seen the photo of Little Geo and another man with their dogs & guns that is on a website and of him as a younger man; this photo is of an older gentleman, but I can surely imagine they might well be the same person at a different time in their life. I would appreciate it if someone would be willing to look at the photo and I would certainly be more than glad to forward it. Thank you, Sandra

Sandra,
I have records of descendants of George Cogburn (which is Henry's grand father). There are lots of names, and no dates of deaths. This could help in the search for your link to Henry.
If you have a fax number, I will fax them to you. I also have the family group sheet of Henry and Margarette, which I can send you (if you want it). I am happy to help you out in any way I can.
My e-mail address is faze5053(a)aol.com. I am anxoius to hear from you.

I have clues that keep leading me to think I also tie into the Henry & Margaret Johnson Cogburn line but have never been able to document this. I am always trying to find some new bit of information that will do this for me so when I saw your message I had to try one more time -- probably the readers of this board think won't that girl ever give up?! Ha!
My grt gf was Wm. I. Cogburn; I have Isiah but have also seen Isaac. He is not the one I've seen posts on this board; he married Jennie Teresa Davis 11/26 1893.
Wm's father died before he was born placing the father's death between July 1871 and April 1872; William was born April 26, 1872 in Ark. We've never been able to document a father for him. Do you possibly have research that would include a young Cogburn man who died during that period?and had married Louisa/Luisa/Liza/Lisa ..have these spellings, but we have her name as being Luisa Amanda White Cogburn, born 1854, maybe TX but still some doubt there. We have nothing on her people either but keep finding connections between the White & Cogburn families as well as Whisenhunt. Luisa remarried Adam F. Whisenhunt after her Cogburn husband's death and the family soon came to Texas, leaving behind Wm's Cogburn kin and it seems all knowledge of them.
Wm's father supposedly died from an accident as opposed to illness; his daughter, now deceased, recalls having heard this was an accident involving a horse; perhaps there is some story in your family history that would sound related? Wm is reportedly an only child though an older cousin out in west TX recalls that either he OR his father was a twin, with the twin having died in infancy and thinks he's buried at Hope, Ark. Wm was with his mother, step-father and half siblings in Howard Co 1880 census; incorrectly listed as Whisenhunt rather than under his Cogburn name.
I could go on with the various clues that have led me to believe he certainly might tie into your line ... uncles by the names of Henry's boys, etc. I would so appreciate any information you might have that you think might assist me in some small way. Posts here or direct email either is fine. Thank you, Sandra
