I spoke with a lady today who told me a story I hadn't run across at least. I had inquired if she had heard of anything similar in that my grt gf's dad died before Wm's birth 4/72, placing his death 7/71-4/72. She thinks this story may have taken place later than that but is worth checking with y'all on.
My William I. Cogburn's mother was Luiza White Cogburn & his father's name remains a mystery. He supposedly did not die of an illness but rather an accident that a great aunt thought involved a horse.
Her story as told to her by family members years ago...
At Fancy Hill, Ark a Cogburn man on horseback was running from a fight and ran into a clothes line and was killed. I don't know if the line cut his throat and died from that, was knocked from the horseback and died or how it all happened. The question is has someone heard this story who might also provide an approx time it took place and maybe approx age of the man (Wm's mother Luiza was 18 at the time so guess is he was some older than that) or of course better yet his name also or something even like this man left behind a young widow with unborn child. Luiza later married Adam Whisenhunt there in Ark, started a family and then they moved to TX.
I've posted so many leads concerning this elusive ancestor please forgive me. But someday one may pay off and ring a bell with someone as I'm having no luck otherwise. I keep on searching but welcome so much any input at all. Thank you Cogburns! Sandra
