Sandra, I went to Family Tree DNA and there is not a Cogburn or Cockburn
project at this time.
I have been trying to find My maternal great grandmothers line without
success. Her name was Mary Ann Cogburn born about 1831 in Tennessee, married William
Vincent/Vinson in Rutherford County, TN in 1852.
She was said to be full booded Cherokee. I had a mtDNA run and found that
this was not true, at least her female line came out of northern Europe
Vernon
Is there a Cogburn DNA Project being conducted like I find on some of my other lines? And could guess this would link into the other spellings as though my Cogburn grt gf spelled his name this way, very likely his father or family before him might have used Cockburn or one of the other spellings more commonly used at the time. Apologies if this has been posted and I was not paying enough attention at the time. Thanks, Sandra

Donna, thank you so much for your post. I had surely hoped to have gotten more response on this and look so forward to the pictures. Yes, I would like a copy of descendants also if you would and would be so glad to share what I have, but it is so little as it is the father of my grt-gf I seek to get a name and info on. Therefore, I'm not sure where I fit in. My thought process has been that my grt-gf William I. (we have Isiah though I've also seen it Isaac) Cogburn born in Ark 4/26 1872 may have been a nephew of George from little clues I keep trying to put together. William's father died before he was born, his mother Louisa/Luisa/Luiza (so many spellings!) White Cogburn remarried (Adam F. Whisenhunt) and they started their own family and then moved to TX; we have no info on Wm's father and his family; what little info I have on his mother came through the Whisenhunt line. I unfortunately did not start my family history until my grandmother/Wm's dau passed away as well as h!
er siblings except for the youngest who seemed to really know nothing. She has since passed away also, but for some years before, I quit asking her questions as it seemed to upset her that she did not know the answers and then of course later her memory worsened as well. So I've really been up the proverbial creek as I find what I think are good clues but can never document any of them or they fizzle out. Would you like me to send you the picture I have of "Dearest Uncle George"? I would be glad to. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks! Sandra
