Gail, I don't blame you! that's why the census doesn't publish for one
generation. I don't mind if they have my name in my line, but vital
statistics is too much. I've seen several published with "private" after
still living descendents.
If I pass along stuff given to me, I attribute it, and say that I haven't
substantiated it. I don't think I've passed on anyone's private stuff, none
of it has been present generation, I'm not past my immediate family and I
haven't published any trees yet just because I haven't substantiated it all.
Did you tell those who published your info? Do that and ask them to remove
the private things

Since about 1996 until recently I have enjoyed researching my family
history, communicating and sharing information with other "cousins" who have
been very generous in sharing their own information. However, I have come
across at least two web sites that have published complete dates/places of
birth, marriages, divorces, etc. of myself and immediate family members who
are still living. Some information published also includes my own personal
notes. I've been willing to share information for other researcher's
personal records but feel it is an invasion of privacy to have that
information indiscriminately published on one's web site.
At this point I feel very reluctant to share anything, including photos,
death certificates/obits, military papers, biographies of ancestors, or any
information collected from others. This saddens me and I hate to feel this
way. I would appreciate having any information -other than names -
published about my family still living (as well as my personal notes) be
deleted from web sites.
I would be interested in hearing from others about this issue. If this is
common practice and I am overreacting please let me know. If you have had
similar experiences and/or agree with my concerns, I'd like to know that as
well. Thanks for letting me vent.
Gail
