Hi List members,
I am sad to report that my wife's grandmother, Ovia Lenore Cogar "Green" passed away Thursday Night September 19, 2002. Ovia or "Peggy" as her siblings affectionatley referred to her, was born Friday April 2, 1909 and was returned to whence she came on Sunday, September 22, 2002 at Pleasantview Cemetary in Martinsburg, WV. She is resting next to her husband Ottis Wesley Green who passed on March 12, 1974 and together they will rejoice when during the ressurection of our Lord Jesus Christ and they are reunited in everlasting life.
Ovia Lenore married Ottis W. Green on March 30, 1926 at Webster Springs, WV. They lived their early lives in Webster County at Bolair and Jerryville. Ottis, nicknamed "Lob" because at an early age he worked for his grandfather, Morgan Tyler, as a "Lobby Hog" in his timber operations on Gauley River, working at various jobs in the timber, railroad and mining Industries. Ovia was postmistress at Jerryville from 1943 until the demise of Jerryville as a town began in 1953.
They moved to Ranson, WV in 1964 where Ottis died. Preceeding them in death at a very young age were their sons' Harold Lloyd and Ronald Clay who died while the family lived in Jerryville and are buried in the church cemetary at Sand Run in Bolair. Surviving them are their two children Nedra Elaine Green "Hamrick" and Arnett Green and three of Ovia's four sisters along with 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Presiding over the Graveside services was Pastor Mike Withem of the First Baptist Church of Ranson,WV. About 10 years ago, Ovia got together with the Pastor and dictated the proceeding of her burial and ceremony. I thought it relevant to mention that she requested the reading of three passages from the Bible. Psalms 90:1-13; 2Corinthians 5:1-11 and Revelations 21:1-8.
Ovia was blessed with a long life that most of us could only hope to achieve a portion of and she is resting in peace awaiting the return of our Lord who will grant those who know him as their personal Saviour, everlasting life.
Ovia L. Cogar was the daughter of John R. Cogar and Olive Delana Hammons, Grand-Daughter of Isaac Newton Cogar and Frances P. Lake, Great-Granddaughter of John R. Cogar and Mary Gregory.
.
Best Regards to all and may God Bless.
Chadd Rose
