Good afternoon,
Reference the request from Evelyn on the parents of Mary Jane Coger who married William L. Heater:
I am also seeking this information since my records (unproven) has F. Coger and ? as Mary Jane's parents.
I also have Catherine; d/o Peter Coger and Mary McElwain with no husband but with some children (no Mary Jane).
Any help appreciated.

Hello Coger List,
I am new on the Coger list and want to enter a Query, in hopes of
finding someone that has researched the family of Peter COGER that married
Mary McELWAIN. :-) There has been many I'm sure.
I am looking for the parents of my 3Xgrgrandmother Mary Coger that
married William L. Heater. I am assumming that her mother was Catherine,
daughter of Peter and Mary? Some sources list her mother Catherine married
to a John Asward (Webster Co. Heritage book 1994) and a William Campbell.
Another source, (Braxton Co. Historical Society book) says Catherine, the
fifth child of Peter and Mary (McElwain) Coger presumably never did marry,
although, she did have several children. Her oldest son Jacob went by the
name of Boone. Another son Thomas went by the name Campbell. A third son
Daniel kept the name of Coger. Two of her daughters married Lowes under
the name Coger. Now...can it be she had another daughter named Mary that
married my 3Xgrgrandfather William L. Heater.....or have I been barking up
the wrong genealogy tree? I have never seen Mary listed as Catherine's
daughter, but someone told me years ago when I started my search that Mary
was Catherine's daughter. In the 1850 Lewis Co. census William and Mary's
family is listed and he is 55, Mary is 45. The first born daughter is
named Catherine (another reason to believe Catherine was her mother's
name). Mary died before the 1860 census and William is listed in the 1860
Braxton Co. census with some of his children.
I hope (and pray) someone can give me some facts on this family.
Tired of "running around in circles"!
Much Regards,
Evelyn
Hi Everyone,
I just received a back copy of the Journal of The Braxton Historical Society that I ordered...In it they have the father of Peter as John Nicholas Coger...John died before Peter was born....They have for his mother Maria Elizabeth Wilhuet...In the article it says John Jacob, Anna Catharina, and Peter were reared in the home of Godfrey Hambleton....It also says Peter's name is John Peter Coger...Near the end of the war they moved from Rockingham County to Botetcourt County VA....Can we get a discussion going on this family...Maybe if we all add what we have together we can figure this out....Crossing fingers and toes....Irene Locke Read
