Am I the only one who is frustrated with the Cogan list? How much of it is actual material that the lists were meant for? I always read it 'just in case' but every time I have to weed through a glut of words to see if there is an actual post somewhere in it.
I was just reading the guidelines for the Roots-L list. They do not allow surname signatures and they do not allow advertising or promotion beyond 1 brief mention. I'd like to suggest we do the same. Most of us know about DNA research and are capable of looking it up in Google if we want to know more. I think 1 mention of a personal surname project/database is more than enough. I personally don't want to see it every time I read these. These lists were not meant for people to use in order to self-promote.
I am sorry if this all sounds mean but the list doesn't belong to 1 person.
