I am a descendant of Sarah Coffman, the daughter of Henry Coffman (born in Gloucester, Virginia around 1700). I believe that is too early for Henry to have been descended from the German/Swiss Mennonite community in Virginia (especially with the "Coffman" spelling), although I don't know for sure. Nor is he descended from John Nicholas Coffman, who was born about 1730.
I don't think a DNA test will tell me anything in my case, because I'm not descended from the Coffman's through the paternal line or through an all-female (mitochondrial) line.
I'm really hoping someone has some information so I can trace Henry back. His wife's name was Elizabeth, which unfortunately has led to confusion with a later Henry who married another Elizabeth in 1827. My Henry died young, in 1770.
