I am researching the Coffman family of Rockingham, VA. I saw an earlier posting regarding this area but was not sure if those individuals were still online.
My line includes:
John Joseph Coffman (1857-1930)
m. Elizabeth Knupp than m. Mary Garber
His father was Joseph Coffman (1828) who married a Mary. He may have remarried an Ellinora, but I have no proof of that. Any information would be wonderful.

I am looking for any information on This man. The only thing I know or have heard was he was around 60 when he married Peraly Janette Stenhouse. If this is correct he would have been born about 1896. She was born 11 Nov 1908 in Harford Arkansas and died 18 Mar 2001 in I believe Arkansas. Her parents sold her to him They had two children Jewel Lebertha and Lester William

Mrs. J. D. Coffman died at her son's residence D. W. Coffman, in the Elmo precinct, last Sunday and was buried in the Terrell Cemetery Monday. Mrs. Coffman was quite an old lady and had been a great sufferer ever since she got a heavy fall at her residence in Terrell about a year ago. We sympathize with the bereaved husband and relatives.

My gggmother was Mary Margaret Coffman, daughter of your John and Rebecca Coffman. You're the first I've found also searching this line. Unfortunatly, the farthest I've verified is John and Rebecca (her family's quickly becoming a headache!)

Isaac Coffman Sr. (husband of Annie French) has been really hard to get any information on. Here are the sources I have and where they say he came from:
W C Coffman's biography says Isaac was born in Maryland. (published in 1885 - Memoirs of the Lower Ohio Valley" by Federal Publishing)
Richard Franklin's biography says Isaac was born in Pennsylvania. (Kentucky: A History of the State. Perrin, Battle & Kniffin, 2nd ed.,1885)
W H Coffman's biography says Isaac was born in Germany and came to Lincoln County, VA right after the Revolutionary War. (HISTORY OF TEXAS TOGETHER WITH A BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY OF MILAM, WILLIAMSON, BASTROP, TRAVIS, LEE AND BURLESON COUNTIES. The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago, 1893)
All these biographies are online and can be reviewed.
I visited the Scotland, PA (Franklin County) genealogy library in Chambersburg and did not find any definitive information on either Isaac Coffman Sr. or Annie French.
I do believe that the Samuel and Henry French listed on the 2nd Census of Kentucky, 1800 in Mercer County are related to Annie French, Isaac's wife, but I would like to find out if the French's were in Lincoln County, VA before Kentucky. If I can find them I will post.
Please share any information you might have. If we work together we should be able to solve this puzzle.

I have found a biography from 1893 for W H Coffman (great grandson of Isaac Coffman Sr.). If you're researching Isaac Coffman and Annie French you know how much of a brickwall they are. Every little piece of information helps.
HISTORY OF TEXAS TOGETHER WITH A BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY OF MILAM, WILLIAMSON, BASTROP, TRAVIS, LEE AND BURLESON COUNTIES. The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago, 1893
"W.H. COFFMAN, one of the representative citizens of Lee county, is a son of John and Elizabeth (Cobb) Coffman. The great-grandfather of our subject, Isaac Coffman, came from Germany to Lincoln County, Virginia, at the close of the Revolutionary war. The family lived in that county until 1800, and in that year moved to Mercer county, Kentucky. Isaac Coffman lived to a good old age, dying when our subject was ten years of age. The grandfather, Henry Coffman, raised his family in Hopkins County, as he did also his son, the father of our subject. The father was born in 1805, was married in 1830, and raised a family of eleven children, eight now living, viz.: W.H., our subject; Sarah K., wife of Jasper Orton, of Hanson, Kentucky; Elizabeth, now Mrs. Nance, of Webster county, that State; James P., of Slaughterville, Kentucky; David H., of Webster county, Kentucky; Leah F., now Mrs. Slaton, of Hopkins county; Thomas J., a resident of Burnet county, Texas; B.C., of Temple, this Sta!
te; and Medora J., now Mrs. Smith, of Lee county. The father was a farmer by occupation, a member of the Methodist Church, and his death occurred in 1884. The mother died in 1887. The Cobb family were originally from Georgia, and the grandfather of our subject, Howell Cobb, was a cousin of the noted Georgia statesman of that name.
W.H. Coffman was born in Hopkins county, Kentucky, November 26, 1831. In October, 1855, he emigrated to Texas, locating on his present farm of 277 acres. He is a Democrat in his political views, served as Justice of the Peace a number of years, one term as County Commissioner, and represented Lee, Washington and Burleson counties in the Eighteenth Legislature. Since 1858 Mr. Coffman has served as secretary of the Masonic order, Lexngton Lodge, No. 138; has held the same office ten years in the A.L. of H., Alpha Council, No. 166,is the oldest Past Commander in the State; and is also a member of the K. of H.
In Hopkins county, Kentucky, September 23, 1855, our subject was united in marriage with Nancy C. Brown. They had seven children; Robert Morris, deceased; Denolas H., widow of a Mr. Thomas and a resident of Lee County; Genoa A. , wife of Ira Bounds, of Milam county; Emma C., at home; Ann Elizabeth, now Mrs. Thomas, of Lee county; J.R. and William J., at home. the wife and mother died in July, 1875, and January 15, 1880, in Lee county, Mr. Coffman married Mary E.
