I know of at least two Jacob Coffman who lived in Rockingham Co., VA who were comtemporary with the one I'm seaching for more information about. I don't really have any information about him except that he was married bef 1792 to a Catherine Bear/Bar who was named a dau. in the will of her father Hans Heinrich Bar who d. abt. 1807 in Coventry, Chester Co., PA.
This Jacob Coffman/Kaufman must have died between 1795 when his last known child was b. according to his wife's Bible, and when his wife remarried Michael Krouse in 1801, also according to the same Bible.
That this Jacob Coffman/Kaufman died in Rockingham Co., Va is ascertained by the record of the guardianship of his three children in Rockingham Co., even though they were living in Shenandoah Co. where the step-father, Michael Krouse was living. The step-father, Michael Krouse was the appointed guardian, which was the usual practice, and his wife Catherine and her three children, Benjamin, Mary/Maria, and Anna/Nancy were named in his will, which was read abt. 1808.
Another Jacob Coffman who died in Rockingham Co., in 1796 was the well known Revolutionary veteran who had 4 known sons, Martin, Christian, Jacob & John. There mother was reportedly Elizabeth Holdiman who I've read died in 1805. I'm trying to find the evidence that this Elizabeth died in 1805 in my attempt to ascertain that these two Jacobs couldn't be the same man.
Has anyone an idea what the evidence is?
Many thanks,
Marc Archer
