I have a James Moore Coffman in my data base. I do not have a surname for
James' wife. The marriage probably took place about 1870. I have children:
Mary E b.1870 MO, Sarah b.1875 MO, Harriet & Lissie (twins b. Dec. 1879 MO.
and Edward B. Coffman b. 1883 TX. My source is the book "From Across the
River. I have not done census research on these Coffman's, but they should
be on the 1870 and 1880 census for MO. My data is at rootsweb. Please
respond with your email if we have a connection so that I can add you to the
data base as a researcher. Thanks and good luck in your research.
Mary

hmmmmm. Reason was married to a Lavinia Green (b. May 1809 in VA, married Reason 14 Feb 1828 in Belmont Cty OH, died 10 Dec 1869 in Adams Twp, Monroe Cty OH). I have a copy of Reason's will; he died in Belmont Cty in Jun 1837. Reason & Lavinia's had kids named Franklin, Leander (my direct line), Louise, Elizabeth and Harriet. I purchased Reason's will online and I'll check to see if there are any other Coffman wills from Belmont Cty. Maybe we could link our Coffmans thru another will.
Anne

IF Adam is Samuel's father, the children are:
Samuel, Peter, Mary, Henry, Michael, Nancy, Susanna, Soloma, William and Isaac. All were born between 1797 and 1820. Again, I know that Adam was from PA - found him - HOWEVER, since the name Adam never surfaces in any other generation, I am skeptical.
Samuel b. PA 1804, d. 1877 in Jackson County, IN
m. Sarah/Sally Mayhugh, b. 1809 VA, d. unknown. Marriage: Belmont County, OH June 17, 1830
Children:
Solomon 4/9/1831 (my line) in Bellaire, Belmont, OH
Hanson, Jan 27, 1835 in Bellaire, Belmont, OH
Laban, Sept 14, 1837 Bellsville, Clermont, OH (Note the similarity. It is possible that he was born in Bellaire, Belmont, OH, also.)
I have found another Coffman researcher that is also Solomon's ggggrandson. His uses TimWoodson1.
To further complicate the research, at some point, the family changed their name from Kaufman to Coffman. My Dad always thought that was done while they were still in PA.

I think our Coffmans may be related. My ancestor, Reason (Rezin) Coffman was born in PA (c. 1805 but not sure where) and died in Belmont Cty OH (lived in York Twp) in 1837. I think he might have been Samuel's brother but I haven't been able to get back any further in my Coffman line. Do you have any info on Samuel Coffman's family (parents, sibs, etc.?). I don't think I have anything that can help you re: Solomon, but it would be fun to link our lines together.

I have Coffman ancestors from Belmont OH who later moved to Lawrence Cty IL. My Belmont OH Coffman was named Reason (Rezin). I have not been able to get back past Reason, but the consensus is that he came from PA. I have a copy of his will, but there isn't much information in it. Do you think Reason could be related to your Coffmans? Since he died in Belmont Cty OH it seems like maybe we have a connection somehow???
You can email me at aldaveed(a)txcyber.com if you have any info you can share

Dorothy Yoder Coffman, 86, of Minerva, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 30, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Paoli. She was the wife of M. Fred Coffman, to whom she was married for 65 years.
She was the only child of the late Earl and Fern Fox Yoder.
First and foremost, she was a homemaker. She was also a graduate of Cleveland State University, after her children were educated.
She was an avid reader, was interested in photography and was a professional genealogist with numerous publications.
She was a member of Grove United Methodist Church, of West Chester.
She is survived by three children, Daniel Maurice Coffman, Sara Jane Coffman and Emily G. Richardson; and five grandchildren, John Coffman, Lauren Zielsdorf, Nicholas Richardson, Matthew Richardson, and Zachary Richardson.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Grove United Methodist Church, 490 W. Boot Road, West Chester.
Interment will be private.
Contributions in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Arrangements are by the Auer Memorial Home and Cremation Services of Harrisburg.
Does anyone have any information concerning the family of Daniel Coffman of
Juanita Co? I see the family on census records, looking for earlier information
about them.
I descend from his son Walter William Coffman, who moved to Huntingdon Co.
PA. He lived in Porter Township and was married to Susan Neff Isenberg Coffman.
thanks,
Teresa
