Hello All,
Still digging around trying to find the parents of my John Kaufman/Coffman/Caufman. As a refresher:
John Kaufman b. abt 1812 Virginia, d. 1875 Ohio, w. Possibly first one before 1830 with a child Noah Coffman b. between 1830-1836.
Second wife Margaret Davidson b. abt 1817 in Virginia and d. bef 1864 in Perry County, Ohio (had thought name was Davis but now think name is Davidson based on census records and neighbors). Children William Coffman b. 1845 in Ohio; Elijah E. Coffman b. Feb 5, 1846 Rochester, Noble County, Ohio and d. Jan 28, 1921 in Pleasant City, Ohio; Thomas D. Coffman b. jun 1848 in Ohio and d. 1926 in Perry County, Ohio; John Wesley Kaufman b. Dec 9, 1849 in Perry County, Ohio and d. Oct 3 1921; Elvira Coffman b. abt 1853 in Ohio and d. Oct 14, 1917; Sarah Coffman b. abt 1853 in Ohio; POSSIBLY an Alice Coffman b. 1862 and d. Oct 16, 1958; and POSSIBLY George Coffman.
Third wife Mary Elizabeth Morgan (my line) b. Aug 18, 1846 Monroe Township, Perry County, Ohio and d. Abt 1872. They were married Aug 18, 1864 in New Lexington, Perry County, Ohio. Children William Samuel Seymore Coffman b. Nov 22, 1966 Corning, Perry County, Ohio and D. Feb 19-21 1951 New Lexington, Perry County, Ohio (my line); Hannah Coffman b. 1868 Ohio, and Lucy Coffman b. 1870 Ohio.
John Kaufman's son, William Samuel Seymore Coffman married Ella Amanda Hatfield and his son, William Calvin Coffman was my grandfather.
Trying to find John Kaufman/Coffman/Caufman's parents in Virginia. I am guessing that he had a brother Amos Coffman based on the 1850 census of Bearfield Township, Perry County, Ohio. Possible he is a cousin but birth years very close and both came from Virginia and both are close neighbors. See below. If you have any information on these two Kaufman/Coffman/Caufman's, please let me know.
Per findings in the 1850/1860 US Census, Bearfield Township, Perry County, Ohio, I think that Margaret Davis is really Margaret Davidson. I'll do more investigating.
In the 1860 Census, there is a John Caufman, age 48 in the Bearfield, Perry County, Ohio census. Post Office McLuney Station. Farmer, born in Virginia. William age 16 born in Virginia. Thomas age 11 born in Virginia. John age 9 born in Virginia. Elvira age 7 born in Virginia. Sarah age 7 born in Virginia. Note no wife noted.
I found an Amos Coffman nearby John Coffman. Please review the following. I am wondering if it is possible that Amos is a brother of John.
In the 1850 Census, we find John Coffman age 36 farmer born in Virginia. Wife Margaret age 33 born in Virginia. William Coffman age 5 born in Ohio. Elijah Coffman age 4 born in Ohio. Thomas Coffman age 3 born in Ohio. John A. Coffman age 6/12 born in Ohio. Again, Nicholas Davidson is next door. Page 27. Also in the 1850 Bearfield Township, Perry Co. Census is Amos Coffman age 33, farmer born in Virginia, Sarah Coffman age 32 born in Virginia, Catherine Gasman age 12 born in Ohio. Andrew Gasman age 11 born in Ohio, Mary Gasman age 8 born in Ohio, Joseph H. Gasman age 4 born in Ohio, John Coffman age 4 born in Ohio, Sarah E. Coffman age 1 born in Ohio and William J. Coffman age 6/12 born in Ohio. This family is on page 25 and our John is on page 27. On pages 22 and 23 there are more Gasmans. GOSSMAN
Amos Coffman b. 1817 in Virginia and d. 1860 married first to Elizbeth Godlove Jan 26, 1843 in Perry County, Ohio. Son John Coffman born 1846 in Ohio. Married second Sarah Ann Ryan born 1828 in Pennsylvania and d. Sep 6, 1892 in Monroe, Perry County, Ohio. Son John Coffman born 1826, Ohio. Sarah E. Coffman born 1849 in Ohio. William J. from the notes of Arnold Van Horn.
In the Perry County death records it spells both her and Phillips name as Clipstine. On the grave stone for Phillip it is spelled Klipstine. It is unknown where Sarah is buried. It does not appear to be by Phillip. It is unknown where her second husband (Amos Coffman) is buried.
Perry County Recorders show that in Vol. N, page 489, Frederick and Sarah Ann Gossman sold land to Andrew Brown for $250. Both signed the deed.

Bluff Reunion: Last year several of us attended and had a great time. We started gathering around 9 to 10am. We had wonderful fellowship with each other and other family members whose relatives are buried at the Bluff. Each family had a table that was covered with food they bought with them. Then the best part: we had rows and rows of food to eat off of(all of the families shared their food with each other). There are some great cooks !!!!!!!! Everyone brings there own drinks, plates etc. Afterwards, we had a meeting with a devotion and report from the cemetery committee. Alot of us walked and looked at the Bluff. Which is maintained by a fun raising event yearly - Garage Sale (2003-they made $10,000). The event for 2005 will be held on the last week of September. Please plan to attend if you can - it was a lot of fun.

We don't have everyone's email or snail mail addresses. So please pass this on to our relatives.
As we get more information, we will pass it on. See ya in July 2005 !
