PLEASE Someone strong pick up the torch and come Forward and
Lead This Army, that's ready to follow, into battle, this effort to save
this old COFFMAN Log House in Tennessee. Thank you so much, just one brave
person is all we need. Regards Carl
Dear Wonderful Bonnie, Linda, Marilyn,
Thanks for answering the "Call To Arms" on the old Coffman Log House. Time
may be limited now as that newspaper art. was dated 11/16/2001 in the
Chattanoogan paper. Why don't One or two or three of you be Chairperson to
head the drive to save the House, as one or two Co-chair. My hands are to
painful to do much typing, and still have duties to the Reunion, and can't
take it on. Doing the reunion inviting nearly did me in here at comp
central. Please. As my mother used to say to me when I did something good, I
say to you three: "You did good Buttercup". The letter to the Chattanoogan
was great, and if you will go on a search on <http://www.google.com > and
type in "Tennessee Preservation Trust" you will get more leads nearer to
Hamblen Co., where the house is located, who should help us, and give us the
names of the powers to be over this project. I've never been to this house
yet but have seen pictures on the web of it. Again go to Google and search
for Coffman_house and you will find links to
<http://www.the-watchers.com/coffman> and/or do a search on David Harmon
Coffman. I know the house location, history, and pictures are on
The-Watchers pages.
I believe what the state don't know that the first Baptist Church in East
Tennessee is located in the rear of this house. Son Andrew was one of the
preacher who used this church and had it move log by log when they built a
new church at maybe Bent Creek, because he cared so much.
Also unknown to most is that there are many unmarked graves of still born
and those of the Colored Slaves around the house. The State just can't find
all these graves, and even if it was possible to, would never do right in
re-burying, the remains. Much better to leave them alone.
Please Ladies start in on this and I'll sure do my part in rounding up all
my Kauffman/Coffman Cousins and put them in contact with you Ladies if you
will please take this job on. Regards. I remain,
Very truly yours,Carl Coffman

This was in the paper today. This old house dates back to the late 1700's
and rummor has it that Pres. Andrew Jackson stayed there some as he knew
David Harmon and his son Andrew who become a baptist preacher, and lived in
the house next. This old house is over 200 years old and people live in it
today. Please do what you can to help save it. Thanks Zella

Dear Bobbie,
I'm sure you are seeing My thinking in your below supplied data by now.
That by the dates of buying land and joining the Church that David H,
Coffman,b. 1750 Lancaster Co. Pa, Could not of been the only adult K/Coffman
in the County of Green, Hamblen and Jefferson. I'm ready to go to war to
find out how and from where the others near David's Age are from and the
names of ones in their family. I respectfully ask what types of searches you
have done besides the checking of church records and checking probate land
records. Have you did any Census checking for the proper years? I guess you
have a new Pardoner, And when this gets around others will join us. You see
there was a total of 6 boys in Andrew,b.1760 and David's Family and 6 girls
all born in Lancaster Co. Pa. Two of the brothers names are unknown, and one
named Jacob and Christian, and I of course don't know about middle names or
even if these two names are their first even. They would seem to be the best
choice of ones to be with Andrew and David in 1781. Next Choice would have
to be children from Martin and his father Michael from Virginia who went to
Rockingham Va, almost 56 years before this point in time, and they had a son
David born in 1751 in Virg.
Any way help me with what research you have already done please, to save
time, And I and others will give it our all. And it May turn out to mess up
a bunch of family tree charts that others have, if this turns out like I
think it can.
Do you know about the Big National Coffman, el at Knoxville in July the
13 and 14, and if you do, do you plan to attend? I am one of the Host, and
can give you all of the info needed to go. Many Coffman pro Family
researcher, College associated, will be there. Be a great time to iron this
mystery out. I remain,
Very truly yours,

Hi Carl,
There was a Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Coffman listed as charter members in
Bent Creek Church in 1785; this is in Hamblen Co. now, but at that time I
think it was Greene Co. This is all I found on them.
James Coffman bought items at the estate sale of Robert Turner in 1796
in Jefferson Co. In 1797, he is listed on Greene Co. Tax List. In 1803, he
was a witness of seller's signature in a deed to John Coffman in Jefferson
Co.; and also in l803, he bought land in Jefferson Co.; in l821, he bought 2
negroes from William White in Jefferson Co.; then in l827 and l828, he
bought more land in Jefferson Co.
Isaac Coffman bought land in Jefferson Co. 2-12-1795; then in l808
sold land in Jefferson Co. John Coffman sold land in 1793 in Jefferson Co.;
in 1802, he bought land in Jefferson Co.; in l803 bought more land in
Jefferson Co. on the waters of Bent Creek...the branch whereon John Coffman
now lives and where his father now lives on the main road from Bull's Gap to
Dadridge; in l806 sold land in Jefferson Co on the cedar fork of Bent Creek,
begins on forks where William Coffman lives....runs thence with fence
between John Coffman and Samuel Coffman, runs thence to James Coffman's
corner. He sold land to Samuel Coffman in l807 in Jefferson Co., Andrew
Coffman and William Coffman witness his signature; in l809, he bought land
in Jefferson Co.; in l810, he sold land in Jefferson Co.; and in l808 bought
land in Jefferson Co.
Nicholas Coffman bought land in l822 in Jefferson Co., John Coffman
signed as witness; In l833 Nicholas sold land in Jefferson Co. from a tract
granted by State of TN to Nicholas on the waters of Flat Creek, George
Coffman signed as witness.
Harmon Coffman bought 85 acres of land in Green Co. in 1800; and in
l805 bought more land in Greene Co. and then in l810 sold 177 acres.
Daniel Coffman sold to David Coffman 3-25-1806 2 Negro girls Alisy and
Sarah. Andrew Coffman was witness.
Leonard Coffman of Anderson Co. bought 50 acres in Jefferson Co. in
l814.
If you could shed some light on some of these, it might help solve a few
mysteries in this bigggg family. I will appreciate any information you
might have to share with me. Bobbie in Henderson Co., TN.

While doing research in East TN, I found these Coffmans living there before l800 and need help in identifing them. They are: Joseph, James, Isaac, John, Harmon and Daniel. If you have any information on these, I would like to hear from you.
Also in the early 1800's, there were others listed I could not identify; they are Samuel, Rhinehart, and Leonard. If you can identify these, I would like to hear from you. My email address is pierce(a)jaxn.com Thanking you in advance, Bobbie

Hello Lancaster List members, The below is being sent as General info. It
anyone had Cousins links to Andreas Kauffman who arrived in Lancaster Co. in
1717, with two other Kauffman's, brother like, named Isaac and Michael, and
then had Kauffman/Coffman Cousins going to North Carolina Ter.. down "The
Great Wagon Trail to Virginia" and then to What became East Tennessee, by
taking "The Wilderness Trail". Then you might be interested in this
