Dear Coffman/Kauffman list, I have a belief this is a missing David Coff.
that is featured in Watchers.com pages as David Harmon Coffman, born in
Penn. Went to Virginia, and then to Jefferson Co. Tennessee, and other Tenn.
History. My line is from Andrew Kauffman Jr. B.1718 Pa. and has 12 children,
which two were Andrew Coffman,b.1760 and Brother David Coffman,b.1750 both
born in Landaster,Co. Pa. and settled in North Carolina Terr in 1781. Family
history suggest that the two brother never went to Virginia, and that the
below maybe is the Virginia David, and that the David in Tennessee is a
different David and Watcher.com pages on David Harmon Coffman is a composit
of two different David's. And when That David left Virg. he went to Maryland
instead of Tenn. Respectfully Submitted, Carl Coffman,b.1933 Oklahoma.
The following information is from the Frederick-TownHerald, Frederick-Town,
Maryland, printed by John P.Thomas, Saturday, December 19, 1818 issue:In

I am descended from Solomon Kauffman, who arrived in Philadelphia from
Rotterdam in 1750 and settled first in Lancaster County and later
evidently moved to York. He was a member of the German Reformed Church.
He married Wilhemina Klein in 1756, and their third child was Henry
Coffman (d. 1830), who had migrated to Salem, Va., by 1816. Henry's wife
was Elizabeth Peterman, daughter of Daniel Peterman.
All of Henry and Elizabeth's children were born in Pa. One of their
children (perhaps the youngest, if the Kauffman-Coffman book lists them
by birth order) was Jacob Coffman.
Jacob Coffman, who was evidently my gggrandfather, was married to Mary
Cook in Salem in Feb. 1829. Their first child was William Coffman, born
in Salem on Feb. 14, 1830. He possibly had a younger brother, Matthew,
who was six years younger. I can't find a trace of any other children.
Jacob evidently died about 1841, and Mary died in late 1843. William was
then assigned a guardian, William Cook, likely his uncle.
I have circumstantial proof that Jacob and Mary were my gggrandparents,
but I am looking for confirmation, and I would like to be in touch with
any other descendants of the original Solomon. I would also like to have
responses from Klein, Peterman, and Cook cousins. I'm sure there must be
many out there.
Thanks,
Sue in Dallas

Hi Mary. No charge. I'll do what I can. Am forwarding this to the Coffman list as well as someone else may want this info.
On page 708 of "The Kauffman/Coffman Lineages", your Nicholas appears. As you read it remember they use the numbers differently than I am used to 46 is the 6th child of 4 and 461 is child number 1 of 46. And when they get to the 10th child, they use a letter. Number 10 is 4a.
I just hope I eventually make a connection of my Kaufman/Coffman line as well. Carl has pointed me in a few directions to look. My Kauffman/Coffmans were also around Muskingum County/Licking County/Perry County Ohio about the same time as those below.

Quintileus P. Coffman
Quintileus P. Coffman, was born in Union county, Ill., December 12, 1841, and
is the son of George W. Coffman, a native of Washington County, Tenn., born
in 1812. He went to Cole County, Ill., and there married Miss Lucinda Bales,
mother of the subject of this sketch. She was born in Washington County,
Tenn., in 1824. Mr. Coffman died in 1868. He was a school teacher but a few
years before his death was engaged in merchandising, and he and his partner,
Mr. Perkins built the first business house in the now flourishing town of
Charleston. In 1843 he moved to Gibson County, Tenn., and from there to
Stoddard County, Mo., in 1858 , where he engaged in farming. He was a
Democrat until the war, and then became a Republican. Mrs. Coffman died in
1884. Quintileus was the sixth of ten children born to this marriage. His
educational advantages were limited to a sister's instruction. In 1861 he
left home and went to Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, and remained three years.
Before leaving for Ohio he was forced into Thompson's militia, which he was
obliged to do in order to save his life. At the end of three months he quit,
joined the Union service, and served with the First Wisconsin Cavalry three
months, under Capt. Hides. Then after going to Ohio he joined the one Hundred
and Thirty-third Ohio Regiment, and participated in the battle of the
Wilderness. He also participated in the battle of Bloomfield, Mo. After the
war he taught school for several years, after which he turned his attention
to farming, which he has since continued. He is now the owner of 160 acres of
good land. September 17, 1867, he married Miss Lurinda S. Foster, who, it is
thought, was born in New Orleans, May 8, 1845, and died in Stoddard County,
Mo., in 1870. Two children Ida Bell and Albert Clinton, were born to this
union, both of whom are now deceased. Mrs. Coffman was a member of the
Methodist Episcopal Church. July 4, 1881, Mr. Coffman married again, and took
out the first license issued in the county. He married Mrs. Emma Welch,
daughter of G. Hawks and the widow of James Welch. She was born in Monroe
County, Tenn., December 11, 1844, and by her marriage to Mr. Coffman became
the mother of one child, Ru Otto. Mrs. Coffman is a member of Christian
Church, while Mr. Coffman is a member of the G.A.R., the Wheel, and is a
Republican in politics.

Dear Tom Coffman, It's my belief the below is you main Ancestor to America
and his children, which son Martin Lead some/most of his Family to Virginia
in very early times, abt. 1735 after father died in Lancaster Co. Pa. I'v
known of this family for a long time and know some moved to Tenn in about
1804. There were following children named David, John, Martin, and Chirstian
from marriages of the original children to Virginia mates. These Kauffmans
would not be very much related to David Harmon K/Coffman and brother Andrew
K/Coffman. These Mennonites brother were never in any Wars like The American
Rev. like some web pages show. They went to prison or killed first, and to
prove it they paid North Carolina for their land grant, and if in war it
would of been free instead. I think a David (NO-MIDDLE-NAME) Kauffman in
Virginia, was in the American Rev. and that David and David Harmon are
mixed up wrong in Family files. If, Tom, you can't go further up the tree,
then get at the top and go down, and see if they meet. I had a bit of time
on my hands and decided to give it a try. Will not go any further if you
don't want me to. My best to you, and will see you in the Coffman Conference
in Powell.Tn. regards Zella Coffman

Hi Tom, I coming up with a copy of The Original land grants from North
Carolina Terr for 1783 for Brothers David Harmon K/Coffman,b.1750 Pa. and
Andrew K/Coffman,b.1760 Pa. They both settled on a Lick Creek and farms are
listed so far from places by Chains and Rods. I do know Andrews farm ended
up in Granger Co. Tn. And David's in Greene Co. Tn. I know the county lines
changed But I don't see that they very afar way from one another. When I see
you in Powell, i'll try to have you a copy. May have to go to a land
abstractor to make sense of the location. Will you be staying at The Sleep
Inn on Central ave? And when are you checking in. I think I will be there
Thur. Want to go hunting? Regards Carl and Zella
