Cousins Hello, As one can't wear Germ mask all the time, and now today, two
types of Amtrak's had been found,i.e., one you breath in and 2nd that shows
up on skin as rash. I had a meeting as daddy/leader to this group and have
suggested daily taking of body temp. This is how it starts as a low fever.
Suggested nothing, I told the whole bunch, I'de whip them if they didn't,
and to keep a record for all to see if----. This is a serious thing, And it
would be a good thing for all of us to do. I promise I wont whip you'll as
it's up to the head of family leader
unit. This is the best I can come up with, and it will take away a lot of
worry if ever day you are normal temp.
More mail to follow this evening on Reunion at Powell, June 22nd and
23rd, when Terri gets home. It's going to be something to remember!!
Bye Cousin Carl, "That Yankee Guy"

Sandy, hello I got about 25 request for tapes and I'de try to do them if the
tape was worth while. The news story was blew up to indicate things that it
didn't show. The doctor pointed out we haven't any way to know if we are
gassed because science has never gotten around to taking on the task of
making that Tech. Doctor say his plan was about a #1 on a scale of 10 to
survive Anthrax by keeping strong Infection fighting drugs on hand and take
at first sign of illness. He smiled when he said that's better the 0. It all
was a disappointment, the show on CBS. Sandy we are having a Major Coffman
and Coffman Cousins, conference coming up in first 2 weeks of June in 2002
in Eastern Tn. Where a lot of Coffman settled in 1781. I'll be getting back
to you a little later on. Cousin Carl in Wichita

I've posted this on Genforum and didn't realize I had not posted to the list. This is my Great-grandmother's obituary and also a family history of her step daughter.
Carbondale Record
Carbondale, Osage County Kansas Thursday Dec. 5 1935
Mrs. George W. Carpenter
Esther Virginia Coffman Carpenter was born at Ronceverte, West Virginia, June 11 1845 and passed away in Carbondale, Kansas November 1935.
She was united in marriage to Geo. W. Carpenter in 1868. They came to Kansas in 1878 settling in Osage County. To this union ten children were born. Her husband, an infant son, and a daughter Martha preceded her in death.
Her children Raymond, Reno Nevada; James of Emporia Kansas; John of Denver Colorado; George of Kansas City; Mrs Bettie Snyder; and Mrs. Virginia McDonald of Topeka Kansas; Mrs Anna Dickensheet of Iola Kansas; Mrs. Nina Vail of Emporia Kansas and eight grand children survive.
She was one of the few old pioneers who lived to see the wild unfenced prairie lands of Kansas transformed into fine homes and fertile farms. She joined the Methodist chruch when a girl and remained steadfast in that faith through all her life.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church conducted by Dr. Skovard of Topeka assisted by Dr. Thomas Hinkle of Carbondale.
She was laid to rest in the Carbondale cemetery.
Emma is my Great-grandfather's daughter from his first marriage. She married a man from the Coffman family.
Story #125 Coffman George and Emma Coffman
By Mrs. Ernest Albright obtained from Margaret Hawley Osage Co KS Historical Society
The Coffman clan can be traced to Zurich, Switzerland, as early as the fourteenth century. At the time of the Reformation they were Mennonites and suffered persecution with some being burned at the stake, their lands confiscated, and the children taken from their parents to be trained the state church. Families fled to Berne where persecution followed them until they were taken to Holland for refuge. Their beliefs were similar to that of the Quakers and the William Penn group collected funds to aid the refugees in migrating to America where there was religious freedom.
Few records were kept in the shipping files and it is not known the number that fled to America. In 1717 a group set sail from Rotterdam, including Andreas and Isaac Kauffman en route to Lancaster Co., PA. IN 1770 Andreas's son Rev. Isaac Kauffamn migrated with his family into the Greenbrier Co., VA to settle in virgin territory known only by the Indians up to that time. It was after this move the family Americanized the name from Kauffman to Coffman.
With this turbulent background the family continued to pioneer as a number of the younger generations came to Osage Co., KS, to begin new lives. In 1881 at the age of 23, George Coffman left WV setting in the Ridgeway community with two sisters, Martha and Sarah, and a brother Ira. George married Emma Carpenter, who had come with her family to KS a few years earlier. When they established their home, KS was nothing but a wind swept prairie. They moved to a farm one-half mile west of Overbrook. Within three years they helped lay out the town that is now Overbrook. They were charter members of the Methodist Church and served in many capacities. George was charter member of the AOUW Lodge, a clerk and trustee of the Elk Township, and served on the school board. Emma had attended a Seminary for girls in Lewisburg, WV. They had four sons, Ralph, Carl, Fred, and Marion. Carl was the only some who remained in Overbrook and served as its first mayor after Overbook was incorporated. !
He married Mamie Cann and they had two children, Margaret and Carl Coffman Jr.
Cousins, I just heard this, and it's late in getting this out, but hope it
helps some of you in time. I am recording however. At 9:00 central 10:00
eastern, on C B S network there will be a medical Doctor showing and telling
how to survive a poison Gas attack with items in home. Please try to view
it. And if you can't I'll try to make copy and send if I can. Love Cousin
Carl

Hello Cousins,
For those that still believe me, I want to tell you a true (?) story on
how my Coffman people got around to different places in the country. Old Man
Kauffman/lead, with brother, our line from Lancaster Co. Pa. to the
Apple-Chain mountains of Eastern Tn. Because it was very quite and they
could do as they liked, Both had Moon shine equip in their estate sale upon
death. This one son Dude, David, decided That the people would listen to him
more in Missouri then Tennessee, See he was a preacher, Baptist.(Why, don't
people listen in TN.?) One of David's son got lost and could find his way
back to Missouri, (You will soon see it runs in the family getting lost) and
looked around and found out he was in Texas. He said well one place is as
good as another, and then to he liked the way the Texas Women talked, got
married (2nd time) and Gram paw was born in 1867,Tx. Gramps turned to Photo
Talking and started traveling in his work and with family in a covered
Wagon. All over, he even place 3rd. place in St. Louie World fair in Photo
entry. Some how my dad was dropped off in The Okla Strip/Indian Terr. and
became a share cropper, on 80 acers west of Stillwater, Okla.<probably eat
to much>. Nothing but red clay dirt, but was poor enough to raise cotton.
Later in life he told me the best way to raise cotton is to help you sweetie
off with her clothes. Dad Married a very wonderful Arkansas Women and the
three of us very nice looking Boys were born, (Watch it Carl, these Cousins
know you are windy). And we picked Cotton on and on, until we looked like
Question Marks. In 1939 or so, Dad threw up his hands and said I've had
enough and went looking for another job. He found one in Ponca city putting
in a Crud Oil line in from Ponca to 20 miles east of Wichita, Eldorado, Ks.
Good pay but a lot ot shovel digging. Dad loaded us all on the old Model "A"
pick up. Made Tent on back and we camped out as he worked. Took quite a
while to lay that pipe line but we made it to city limits, of 20 miles east
of Wichita, Eldorado. Dad way paid off and we turned towards Okla.
Low-and-behold we found the line ditch was filled with dirt, with grass
growing on top, and we couldn't get there from here anymore. The model "A"
broke in Eldorado and the 4 of us pushed it to Wichita where there were
parts. Mother steered it. We fixed the truck and found no one in Kansas
hadn't ever heard of Okla let a lone how to get there. A man at the Parts
store said Wichita is booming getting ready for war and there was an
airplane factory building planes and needed works. We all asked him what was
a plane? He said it something that will carry people thru the Air. Dad
said:" Dram right I'll do it, build them, if the things will stand still" We
were just to afraid to ever leave home again. Wichita which become home by
default. Must be a moral here somewhere: "How about never leave home unless
you leave a trail of bread crumbs, Or how about drawing pictures of places
by the by-way while you travel" and reverse on way back.
Telling you Cousins this is a true story. Do you have a tail of your
family? Regards Cousin Carl in Wichita
