By the use of obits obtained by my cousin, I have been able to trace my
Coffman line back to David Coffman who married Ann Elizabeth Jackson and
moved from VAs to Dayton OH. No dates. Children were John Allen,
Elizabeth Ann, David and Jacob (that I have been able to track). John was
born in 1858 (presumably in Dayton and married Minnie Isabel
Crotinger. John died 11/4/1947, 504 Miami St., Dayton, OH. Minnie died
after 1947 as she was listed in the obit as surviving. They were married
5/15/1890 and had the following children: Aaron (my line), Allen, Henry,
Charles, Susan, Margaret, Robert, Frieda, William Felix and Jacob.
Does this match anyone else's line? Would like to "flesh out" this info
and obtain additional if possible.
Tks in ADV.
Edward Jones
Yes I have a bit of info for you, the Anc. for Rhinehart is David Harmon
Kauffman/Coffman, b.1750 in Lancaster,Pa, to North Carolina Terr. that
becomed Jefferson Co. Tenn. The county lines changed several times and his
data may be found in Giles Co. or Greene, and one or two more. He lives his
last years in Limestone Co. Ala where he died in 1835. This is not exactly
our line we follow his brother Andrew K/Coffman, b.1760. However, info on
him is very easy to find, there are several Web-sites showing his life and
family members. Go on a search and type if Genealogy/David Harmon, and you
should find them. Good luck and I don't really see how you could miss. Zella
I see you have a Rhinehart Coffman in your lineage. My ancestors came to
Clinton County Indiana from Grainger County Tennessee and were decedents of
a Rhinehart Coffman. Do you have any further information on your Rhinehart?
Mine had married Elizabeth Wilson about 1788.

Dear List, Does any one have connections to this line? would like to compare
notes if you do. Thanks Zella Coffman
Here is the chart on who they call Andrew Kauffman Jr.b.1718. Now as I have
thot about it, Andreas Kauffman,b.1668 and wife B.1770 could not of been
having children up and into theirs 70's. Even my Dog know better then that
and so should of Charles Kauffman. I checked in Swizerland and found
Andreas,b.1668 son Andreas Kauffman b.1690-1693 to the above couple, and
also Michael and Isaac(not sure if this was all the children, I was luck to
get that far) These three boys arrived on a boat from Holland in 1710-1717
to Penn. There is no prove that their father Andreas,b.1668 ever made it to
America from Bern. Swiss. This was before the age of records in the U.S.,
Mennonites kept some in Lancaster. But I can't not prove any of these
children existed, except So called Andrew Jr. and only then because I'm
here. Charles Kauffman said they were there, but he made mistakes along the
line. But I guess I have to Accept them with the changes made that I pointed
out, in lieu of anything else.

I've got to share this one with you China!!!, Beth, And toolmaker that just
likes a story, anytime, regards Carl
"A Story From The Pass," "by Carl Coffman, Grandson"
I was trolling for info in Mo. counties archives and hit upon an items
question, that I happen to be the only person left alive in the world that
could answer, for this person. And at the same time, get very left handed
and very unlikely, info as where my grandfather had been at one time. Story
as follows:
I was clicking on years of stored archive's info in Miller Co. Mo. and
hit the year 1997, and saw a women message asking for info on when a picture
was taken and she described every thing and the person in the picture, in an
attempt to set a date. She also asked if anyone one knew when the Coffman
Poto Studio had been doing business in Olean, Mo. --Well it was a bingo, for
me!!. Talk about odd's against someone knowing that info and at that place,
and point in time, When all others that ever knew are passed away, WOW!
I went on to tell her that the picture taking person was my Grandfather,
Walter E. Coffman,b. 1866-1948 (Caddo La.-Dallas Tx.) and that he was a
traveling man, going all over taking pictures. I also helped her I.D. the
time of the poto by telling her that Walter left Texas in 1888 and was
reported in Hannibal, Mo. next, and back in Texas in 1906. In other words
the picture could of been taken in that 18 year period. She was way of on
time, she thot 1770 and it wasn't the Ancestor she thot it to be who had
died before 1888. She thanks me and of course her E-MAIL ADDRESS WAS STILL
GOOD FROM 1997. VERY WISE, and also add s-mail address's also. From 1997, to
today was a while to wait for an answer, but it did arrive.
I had some space left and wanted to put something on hard drive archives
so I told her that Walter was a very original man and has made a bike with 3
wheels and rode from town to town on the train rails. Past anc's. have told
me the bike would really get up and go almost as fast as a old train. I
never knew Walter stopped long enough to open a studio, and am most
certainly going to check some records in Miller Co. I also told her Walter
was considered very good in his field and placed 3rd. in a poto exhibit at
the St. Louis Worlds Fair. That was a great honor because these were the
best from all over the world. Walter was a son of Andrew David
Coffman,b.1824-1873 (Grainger,Tn, To Polk Co. Mo to Texas) A.D. Coffman was
a son to David Coffman,b.1787-1838 (Grainger,Tn. Polk Co. Mo) who was a son
To Andrew Kauffman/Coffman,b.1760-1845 (Lancaster,Penn To Grainger, Tn)

Hi. List I wanted to post this so that it will be on hard drive at rootsweb
and in Archives
Hello,
This is Carl, and I will write you what I know from searching
Kauffman/Coffman. We do not use gedcom. And you will have to prove info
youself, as it, is, at is, but I would not knowingly lie or mis-lead. The
Koufman line goes back to 1500, (Some say 1235)to Switzerland, and as there
was no germany, big blocks of land next to Swiss that were privately own.
Kaufman lived there also. A lot like the land given to Lord William Penn, by
the crown, that later became the state of Penn in U.S. All the Kauffman
seemed to be Anabaptist, and there was a order in about 1535 and on, in
parts of Europe to kill, take there goods, and/or exile them. Were the
Kauffman's mennonites? I've found so many Jewish Kauffman's in Jewish ceme's
I'm begaining to wonder if there was a Jewish
branch of Mennonites at that time before 1700 and some time later also??
Things really got hot in Europe and around then and they begain going else
where for fear of life. The Mennonites in Lancaster record that three
Kauffman like brothers arrived by ship in 1717. There names could of been
Mickael, Issacc, and Andreas Kauffman,b.1668 (this 1668 has turned out to be
the father of the real one who was, b.1693 that did come to U.S. Andreas and
is my Ancestor, so now I will stay with him. One of Andreas's children was
Andrew Kauffman Jr. b.1718-1763 and he had 7 children, two of which are in
issue, Namily: David Harmon Kauffman/Coffman b.1750 and Andrew
Kauffman/Coffman, b.1760. The other 5 children stayed in Penn. Rummor has it
that they fought in the American Rev. When they came home they found they
needed papers signed to the effect that they were away to war. Their
mennonite family tefused to sign because mennonites did not beleive in war.
Furthur rummer, says they were hurt by this action, loaded their wagon, (one
with Baptist Bibles)Changed their names to Coffman and left Penn. down the
mountain ridge trail to N.C. Terr. This was about 1783. They filed for land
and both were given 200 acers for service to their country, same day.
Andrew's land become Grainger Co. Tenn. when N.C. Terr. become states, and
David Harmon's become Jefferson Co. Tenn. David H. becomed very well off and
started buying land in different counties and ended life in about 1835 in
Limestone Co. Ala on land he also owned. Andrew Coffmam, b.1760 stayed in
Grainger until death in 1845. He had son's named David, Barton. Andrew, and
Thomas. His will is on file, as is David Harmon and i'm not sure where, it
may be Jefferson, in Grainger Co. David, b.1787-1838 died before his father
in Polk Co. Missouri. the will of Andrew's show two girls besides the 4
boys. What is so note worthy is that both brothers raised boys to be Baptist
preachers. Something sure changed their relig. belief's. If it was the
submitted rummor, I can not say for sure, but its my belief.
There is Switzerland Genealogy that has The three boys history from
Lancaster Co. Penn.. back to 1535 in Bern Sw. I can send a family chart, of
which you can check out with them.
Respectfully summitted 9/15/2000 Carl Coffman, Family Historian

I was just looking at the "Index to MS Amnesty Papers, 'Ab - Cor'", today and
thought this might be of help if you are looking for Ralph COFFMAN of
Granada, Yalobusha County, MS.
I ordered this film from the SLC Family History Library ... #1578769.
If anyone is interested ... I will copy the pages (25 cents a page ... I did
not county the pages, but I don't think there were many).

Hello list,
Through my research I came across Pinckney or Pinkney Coffman
in StHelena, louisiana in 1859-1860. I was wondering if any of you have
heard of this name before or know what branch of the family he might
belong to. The name is so strange, I'm not sure if this is a real
name-who would name their child Pinckney, kid probably had nightmares:)
I found land records for him for a couple 100 acres in those
years, but haven't got to look at the census yet.
If anyone can help me out please let me know,
Zella Coffman.
