Hello Nancy,
My name is Carl Coffman and live in Wichita, Kansas. I'm the Coffman
Family historian. My first question is have you looked at any Texas county's
census in Texas? I found a John Coffman in the county of Cooke, In the 1880
census, one county east of Collins. I havn't checked him out as yet. I guess
story time is in order here:
Your John could be in a lost 2nd. Marriage of Twin brothers, Andrew
David,b.1824 d.1873 in Cooke Co. Texas, and John H.B. Coffman. d.? where ?.
These twin's were born in Grainger, Co. Tn. to the Parents, David
Coffman,b.1787 d.1838 (born. Grainger,Tn., died Polk Co. Missouri and wife
Susan Bunch. The family moved to Polk Co. Mo. to start a church in 1833.
Andrew Coffman married Elizabeth S. Sanders in 1749 and they were in the
1850 census for polk Co. (no children yet). And then This couple droped out
of site. I next find Andrew David marring onother Women in Harrison Co. Tx.
in 1866. From 1849 till 1866 I can't find any clue to Children, nor where
they were. My tree starts with 2nd. marriage, which was very small. Your
ancestor could of been born to this family, as I find traces that Andrew was
in Louisiana and all over north east Texas in your time period. Next the
story of John: he was married in 1845 in Polk Co. to a Mary. They had 6
children in Missouri and come up missing in abt. 1855 and wife recieved a
div. in 1859. When I was small in 1946 my oldest uncle, Walter Edward, b.
1899 told me what I believe to be a true Fanily tail. That our ancestor's,
two brothers, came to Texas, and parts, driving livestock. Uncle, further
stated, times got rough and brothers could not get back home, and stayed
where they were and re-married and had other families, and that we were part
of this new family. Tha Civil War could do this, I quess, keep you from
getting home. It would appear your Mrs. D.G. Coffman could be part of either
Andrew's 1st. family and John's 2nd., Both are completely unknown to us. I'm
always searching for these missing family members history, and saw your post
which was forwarded to me by other. I suggest you read this, think on it,
and add, any thing else that you might remember in another e-mail. I have
contact to a different line of Coffman's, that you ancestor could be in the
same area, do get back to me. Regards Carl. P.S. I suggeat that you put your
missing letter on COFFMAN-L(a)rootsweb.com. Go to <http://www.rootsweb.com> to

I have a Francis Marion Coffman born to a EDWARD & MARGRETTE ANKNEY
COFFMAN. Francis was born Nov 14, 1873 ( no idea where!), but in his words
he was raised on a farm in OHIO. Other info seems to suggest that his
father Edward may have also used the German spelling of KAUFMAN. Anyone
out there these names ring a bell??? Thanks, John Blair
Is there any one with a genealogy interest in John H. B. Coffman, b. abt
1824 in Grainger, Tn., with David Coffman.b.1787-1838,father and Susan
Bunch, Mother, and with 10 brothers and sisters all from Tennessee?
