To Coffman Searchers,
Greetings. I am trying to find the children of the following
couple, Andrew David Coffman b.1824 and Elizabeth Sanders Coffman.
I would really appreciate any help or aid you can give me in this
matter.
I really know a lot about Andrew except for during two periods
in his life when important things happened that I need to know.
First, let me give a overview of those related, before and after,
his birth.
David (baptist preacher)b.1787 (grainger,tn.) d.1838 (polk
county.mo) and his mother, Susan Bunch were his parents. Andrew is
listed in data files as born abt 1815, but was born in 1824,
Grainger,tn. There were between 9-11 children in the family. I
have been tracing some of his brothers and sisters. The whole
family moved to Mo. between 1835 and David's death in 1838 to build a
Baptist church center.
Andrew was married (this is one big problem, were there
children?)in 1849 to Eliz. Sanders. Marriage lin. on file. Andrew
and Eliz. didn't show up in Mo.1850 census. Andrew didn't own land
in polk co. I lose him at this point and find him in 1866, Caddo
Parish, Louisiana. Marriage To Magdalene Sheltman,(marrage on file
and I know a lot about the Sheltman family) Andrew and Magdalene
had twins b. 1n 1867 (my grandfather, Walter E. and Susie). In
1869, Hugh b. and d., And Magdalene D. 1869. When mother died
Susie adop. out to people in Neb. Walter was raised by the Brown
family near Gainsville,Tx.(cooke co.) All the deaths occured in
La. When and how Andrew and Walter got to Texas I do not know.
Family tree records says Andrew died 11/3/1873 in Cooke County. I
havn't found one trace of anything in Texas on any of them. I do
have A picture of a girl in Sherman,Tx. Grayson Co. That was very
sad, it seems she was going to marry Andrew and he died. It was
mailed to Andrew's son years latter. Walter ran the Red River
ferry, located near Gainsville until he turned 22 and left the
Browns, to make it on his own. In closing I need to know where
Andrew is buried and if he had children from first marriage. I
don't know where to start looking county to county wise. I have
not tried big Gen. Lib. search yet. I'm sure I havn't made this
very clear, am ready answer Questions, and go where you suggest.
One thing I left out, Andrew And Walter were cousins to the
Wallaces of Texas Rep. and Ranger Fame.
Warm Regards Carl In Wichita
