Descendants of German Nobility, Native Residents of Juniata County
Perhaps the biggest piece of real estate ever put up for sale in
Philadelphia, will be offered at auction by Samuel T. Freeman and
Company on Saturday. It is no less than an immense estate, or barony,
valued at 100,000,000 dollars, in Alsace Lorraine. Alfred Loy claims he
is executor of the estate, which belonged to Johann Heinrich von
Peterholtz and his wife, noble Maria Ursula.
Lay says he represents the heirs, here.
Countess Maria Ursula von Peterholtz, a daughter eloped to America, in
1750, and became the wife of George Rupp, an employee of her father.
They lived near Chapman's Station in Northampton County, PA, now Lehigh
County, and nine children were born to them.. Seven of these were
married and two died in early infancy.
The descendants of the rupps are scattered over Eastern Pennsylvania,
from north to south principally in Berks, Lehigh, Northampton and
Montgomery Counties and Philadelphia.
All the titles and claims will be produced on the day set for the sale,
declares Loy, and it is this announcement that has created a stir. He
claims to have made 4 investigating trips into the different parts of
Europe.
The above article appeared in "The Philadelphia Inquirer" of March 5,
1908, but there is not much of particular interest to people in this
county, until it is known that there are many living descendants of
Countess von Peterholz now living in Juniata Co.; all of whom are
entitled to participate, to some extent in the distribution of this vast
estate.
Among the children born to George Rupp and his wife, the Countess Maria
Ursula von Peterholz, was a daughter, Elizabeth who married Jacob
Kauffman in Berks County, and afterwards, in 1800, moved to Juniata
County, purchasing what is known as the Rothrock farm, situated just
east of Mifflintown, and there they lived and died. And on the high flat
land on this farm in a small cemetery, was buried the daughter of the
Countess Maria Ursusla von Peterholz, and her husband Jacob Kauffman.
Frances, a daughter of Jacob Kauffman and his wife Elizabeth was married
to Henry Moist, in Berks Co, and a few years later followed her parents
to Juniata Co, where they purchased the Big Spring Farm, just east of
Mifflintown, now owned and occupied by their grandson, Abram Moist.
On this farm they lived and died and were succeeded by their son, David,
the present owner of the farm.
Many of the descendants of the other chuildren of Jacob Kauffman now
reside in Juniata County and throughout the great west, all of whom have
coursing through their veins the noble blood of the Countess Maria
Ursual von Peterholz.
In doing research on my husband's family, I have come across the
Coffman line. I have my husbands great great grandmother listed as a
Druzilla Siddens. I have her parents listed as a Sarah Ann Coffman and
William Siddens, Sr. Druzilla was born March 19 1841 in Indiana. Sarah
Ann was born in Kentucy September 25 1817 and married William Siddens
February 29, 1840. I have Sarah's obituary that listed her as being the
mother of Druzilla. Also, three other family members doing research
have Sarah Ann as being the mother of Druzilla.
My dilemna--I am now researching the other line of my husband's
family--Druzilla's husband Nicholas Barwick. I have found two old
genealogies on file. On that a nephew of Nicholas' had prepared and one
that a grandson of Nicholas and Druzilla prepared. They both list
Druzilla's mother as being a Mary Jane Pugh. They do have her father as
William Siddens.
If any other people are in your line and you can help me prove who is
the mother of Druzilla Siddens, I would be most grateful.

Hi Jane,
Thanks for the information on the children of Winfield S. and Mary V.
(Robey) COFFMAN and the parents of Mary V. What is the complete title of
"the Robey book" that you mentioned?
I'm sorry to say that I don't know anything more about this family.
Since Winfield's Grandfather John Guy COFFMAN is the brother of my Great
Great Grandfather Benjamin R. COFFMAN, Winfield must be my 4th or 5th
cousin. All of these Coffman's were born and died in Harrison County, WV,
but it's possible that Winfield took his family to Wheeling since it
isn't too far north of the Clarksburg area.
No, I don't need any more information on Mary Robey's line. For distant
cousins, I only collect information on their parents and
children/grandchildren.
I'm happy that we have been able to help each other in our family
research, so keep in touch. Where do you live? I live in Delray Beach,
FL, on the East Coast at the north border of Boca Raton.

There was a tie between this Walker family and the family of JOSIAH and ANNA
MILLER. They lived near each other, on the TN/AL line and many of James &
Peggy's children are buried in Miller Cemetary. Also, they named their first
daughter, Anna. I thought James might have had a first marriage to a
Miller girl, since the birthdate of James Robert Walker, Jr. is so out of
line with the other children.
THOMAS MILLER was the executor of Jame's will.
Thank you for your patience in reading this! I will be very grateful for any
help!

Hi to all who want to know,
I have a Coffman coat of Arms, but .... I was told, it may be my family
line's coat of arms and it may not be. That the family name was not
given the coat of arms, it was given to individuals in a family for them
personally.... So by this, one would have to gather all the coat of arms
they could find, then all the ancestors in their line and then try to see
who was issued the coat of arms and hope you had it??? I am very
dissapointed. I thought it was different, that the family name got the
coat of arms. Also told to beware of all those companies selling surname
coat of arms, cause the surname did not get the coat of arms, just
individuals like I said, so it is a phoney!!!

Thanks for trying.

Hi John,
I have a couple of references for you, but don't know if the books are
still available nor anything about the books themselves. If you order
them, it would be appreciated if you post your comments on Coffman-L.
1. "Kauffman-Coffman Lineages," by Charles Fahs Kauffmann:
Lawrence Kaufman, Jr., RD. #5, Box 5406, York, PA 17402 (price unknown).
2. "Across the River: A Record of Legg, Coffman....":
Mrs. Cornell Allred, 8554 Ramona, Bellflower, CA zip? (Price $18).
I checked my file for David, Rev. Michael and Rev. J.D. Coffman but did
not find any matches. We have lots of Davids and Johns in my line, but
they all were born and died in Harrison Co., WV. (J.D. probably is John
David or Jacob David.)
Jerry COFFMAN
My line: Jacob COFFMAN (ca 1750, Smithfield, PA), Henry (Harrison Co.,
WV), Benjamin, William E., Jedediah W. (Braxton Co., WV), John G., and
Jerry L. Coffman. Other lines: DAVIS (Jackson Co., Lewis Co., and
Braxton Co., WV) and ROGERS (Harrison Co., WV).

Hi Larry,
I don't have a copy of this family's Coat of Arms, and really don't know

I'm forwarding this to the Coffman List, so maybe someone will enlighten

says it's reportedly out of print (originally pub. by Gateway Press,

I had sent out a message the other day with out a good subject line. I
would like to apoligize for that. Will do better in the future.
Had sent out a list of family member from my great-grandfather down to my
grandson. I didn't have any dates. I was going by the 1880 census for the
family members of that time. They only provided ages, so I have taken and
subtracted the age from 1880 and now have an approximate date which should
be pretty close. Since I don't know what time of the year this was done
the dates may be off by a little but maybe not.
This is my great-grandfather and his family at the time of the 1880 census
with the years that I caculated for their births:
John B Coffman Born 1830 in Pennsylvania Father
Mary Born 1836 in Ohio Mother
Martitia Born 1863 in Iowa Daughter
Leander Born 1862 in Iowa Son
Ida Born 1865 in Iowa Daughter
Luilla Born 1867 in Iowa Daughter
Benton Born 1871 in Iowa Son
Maud Born 1876 in Iowa Daughter
Hope that this helps and I would like to thanks for help in advance. It is
appreciated.

This is what I have on the family at this point. If any one has any
information on John B Coffman and his family I would greatly like to hear
from you. I haven't made it too far back but working on it. I enjoy
talking to people and looking for information.
There was a a Birdie Coffman who was a teacher in Nashua Iowa who never
married. I don't know quite how she fits yet, but I do know that she was
related because I saw her name in the list of people in the family reunions
that they use to have. I need to go through the book and make a list of
the Coffmans and see what I can find from that angle.
Thans in advance for any help or suggestions in gathering more information
on my family.
