I don't have much on this line yet.
Elisha COFFMAN (b.~1850) married Martha M. "Matt" HICE in AL. (She was the
daughter of Sophronia GIPSON and Hover (Hurcer?) HICE, who married in Gilmer Co
GA in 1850). Their first child was born in AL in 1873. They arrived in Pope Co,
AR between 1876 and 1879.
Census data gives either AL or TN as birthplace of Elisha
In 1911, a picture was taken of the family with their "children and
grandchildren" in the Buttermilk community of Pope Co AR:
Daughter Ida COFFMAN married William J. WRIGHT 27 Nov 1893. Their children in
the photo are: Eula Vernon, Nona, Myrta, Ethel, Gertha, Zelma, Edgar. Daughter
Smyrna died young.
Daughter Ollie COFFMAN married Joe DARTER: children Lon, Ora, and Pearl
Sons Houston COFFMAN, Andrew COFFMAN
Adults: Abby Henderson, Viola Longcrier (probably married daughters)
Felix Longcrier (likely son-in-law)
Other children in the photo (likely grandchildren):
Jeffie HENDERSON, Etta COFFMAN, Rhea COFFMAN, Janie COFFMAN, Minnie COFFMAN,
Victoria COFFMAN, Elisha COFFMAN, Marvin COFFMAN
Other COFFMANs in the Mt Vernon (Pope Co AR) school picture of 1913. Not sure
how they are related to my COFFMANs, but they are living in the same part of
Pope Co:
Winford COFFMAN, William J. COFFMAN, Alvis COFFMAN (male), Mabel COFFMAN, Laura
COFFMAN
Any help welcomed on where to look for this COFFMAN line in AL/TN.

Someone had posted a William Coffman post earlier in the week. I went
to go print it off and delete it from my email. The printer messed up
and I lost it. Could you please repost it, so I can check it against my
research.

Hi to all,
If there is any one out there. I have not heard from the Coffman list in
ages, it seems.... How many are on this list any way?
If there is any one out there, I have a suggestion to give this list some
life....
I am on other lists and they are doing something I though we should do on
this list. I believe it is basically the same thing, but just has
different names for it.
One is called "Roll Call" On this list they are submitting to the list,
kind of an out line of a surname. Well actually they are doing more then
an out line, the info ranges from basics to more fuller info that they
know about an individual. Now our surname would be of course COFFMAN.
Another thing I see a list doing is called ABC's... they began in the
subject line and list in order all their ancestors that began with ABC...
They go to DEF the next week and so on. Well since this is a restricted
list, we can't do that.
Is there something like this that this list does? Or is there any
suggestions as to what we should do to get info rolling on this list???
Or has every one found all their Wiseman ancestors that they are looking
for??? I for one have not.
I am hoping to hear from all of you out there....

I am looking for any information on the following family living in

My oldest ancestor is Jacob Coffman (b. ca 1749) who lived in the
Smithfield, PA area in the mid-1700s with 4 boys and 4 girls ("Hist. of
Prospect Valley," by Nettie Cooper, 1940). A wife was not mentioned.
My third great grandfather, Henry Coffman, is one of the 4 boys. He is
the only family member I've be able to find. Henry, b. ca 1775 in
Pennsylvania (census records), moved to Harrison Co., (W)VA ca 1800. He
married Elizabeth Robinson (d/o Benjamin and Magdalene (Webb) Robinson)
in Harrison County on 1/22/1804. Henry had many children (I've found
most of the information on his descendants) and died in Harrison County
on 11/12/1862. The names of his children are: Felix R., Augustus W.,
Jesse (female), John Guy, Benjamin R., David, Henry D., George W.,
Margaret, and Elizabeth.
Two possible brothers have been found in Harrison County: Johny Coffman
is listed in the 1850 census (50-60 years old); and Christian Coffman
bought 400 acres of land on Goose Creek in Harrison County prior to 1778.
Any information on Jacob Coffman, his parents, wife and children would be
much appreciated.
Jerry Coffman
Hello all,
My oldest Coffman is John COFFMAN, born 3 Jul 1804 in Jefferson County, TN.
He is listed as living in Cocke County, which was formed out of Jefferson
County. John COFFMAN married Elizabeth WITT, born 25 Feb 1809, daughter of
Eli Witt and Nancy McNeely. Carrollton, Green County, IL was the home of John
and Elizabeth for about 15 years, and they then migrated to Collin County, TX
in 1840.
The parents of John COFFMAN are unknown, but the John COFFMAN who made
numerous land grant entries in Eastern Tennessee in 1813-14, and married Ann
Shanks, is a distinct possibility.
Children of John COFFMAN and Elizabeth WITT are:
1. Mary Elizabeth, b: 1828 in TN, m: Peter Lucas, d: 30 Feb 1906
2. Martha Evelina, b: 13 Jul 1830 in IL, m: James M. Graves, d: 3 Mar 1898
3. Rebecca Jane, b: 10 Oct 1832 in IL, m: Thomas Hempstead Rattan,
d: 14, Jan 1913
4. Elizabeth Caroline, b: 1 Dec 1834 in IL, m: Whorton Thomas Moore,
d: 3 Mar 1893
5. Adaline, b: 22 Mar 1937 in IL, m: Hans McAffee, d: 30 Sep 1860
6. George Washington, b: 5 Jan 1840 in IL, m: Mittie Jane Slaughter,
d: 1 Mar 1913
7. Nancy "Nannie", b: 20 Feb 1841 in TX, m: JOhn H. Orenduff, d: 18 Jun 1878
8. Louisa, b: 17 Sep 1843 in TX, d: 2 Dec 1843
9. Sarah Ann, b: 3 Dec 1844 in TX, m: James Barrow
10.Texana, b: 15 Mar 1848 in TX, m: Abraham Fine Riggle
11.John Hogan, b: 2 Feb 1850 in TX, m: Mattie Scott
12.Azalia "Zilla" Harritt, b: 24 Mar 1853 in TX, m: William Perry Slaughter,
d: 1925
Anything look familiar to anyone?
I'm looking for information on COFFMAN's in MO.
1. Mary Ellen (mollie) Coffman Winningham
2. Florence Irene Winningham Coffman
3. Kellis Coffman
4. Jacob and Margret Coffman (m. 1857, in Morgan Co, MO)
All in Missouri. Anyone know them?
Thanks,
JessRoots
Looking for information on the Coffman's that came from Iowa, especially

I need help finding the parents or any information on Michael Coffman
born Abt 1810, not sure of place of birth. He married Mary E. (Sallie)
Dillworth, Oct 12, 1842 in Knox County, Tn. Family members say our
line was in Penn. along with the Pennsylvania Dutch.
Michael and Sallie's children were:
1. Daniel M. born abt 1845
2. Nancy born abt 1846
3. Michael, Jr. born abt 1846
4. Elizabeth born abt 1848
5. Absalom born abt 1849
6. Thomas J. born May 15, 1851 in Madison Co. Tn. according to his
death certificate.
7. Samuel born abt 1857
8. William B. born abt 1860
Michael was counted on the Roane County, Tennessee 1860 Census, this is
the only
place I have found him. I also found a Michael Coffman listed in the
Civil War Veterans roster but couldn't obtain a copy of his military
record because of his lack of
a post office address.
Thomas was my gg-grandfather, he settled in Morgan County, Tn. when he
retired from working with the railroad.
If anyone has any information on this line I would really appreciate the
help, I have
been trying to get this line of the Coffman's out of Tennessee for the
past few years
and have found no leads. I know part of the family moved into Kentucky
so maybe I
should be looking there prior to 1800. Thanks for any information or
leads as to where to look.
Brenda
John,
I believe this Charles F. Kauffman is the author of the book,
Kauffman/Coffman Lineage book, written in 1940. I am not even sure you
can still get a copy. Will search my notes to see if I have any thing on
it.

I found this COFFMAN letter at a Library at Memphis, Tenn.It is
dated July 31,1933 from a Charles F. KAUFFMAN, his address was 826
Florida Ave.,York,Pa. The letter says,
Mrs. Howard Jones
Huntsville, Ala.
Dear Mrs. Jones,
I am compiling a Genealogy of the KHAUFMAN (old spelling)
family which goes back to Jakob KHAUFMANN who planted the family in
Steffisburg,Canton of Berne,Switzerland in 1584 and whose later
descendants swing to the Anabaptist persecution came to Lancaster,
Penna. In 1714 , Andrew, Michael, and Isaac KAUFMAN founded the
family in America. By 1783, a later generation, Andrew, and David
COFFMAN , bought 200 acre tracts in North Carolina in what is now
Hamblen and Grainger Counties,Tn.
The next generation, some went to Alamba. Two sons of David
COFFMAN are said to have gone to Limestone or Madison County. The
daughters, were ,Nancy married William Legg and Elizabeth married
Daniel MEALS.
James COFFMAN, who married in Madison County went to Texas later.
Our records here (York, Penna,) go back to 1749. Many of our old
families have had offshoots into the Sheneandoah Valley of Virginia,
Tennessee and Kentucky.
It may interest you to know that I have recorded the names of
over 7,000 descended from the three KAUFFMAN founders in Penna.
Very sincerely,
Charles F KAUFFMAN
Now what I would like to know, is, Has any one got this
information that this Charles F. KAUFFMAN has on these 7,000
descendants, for I am having the hardest time locating my 5th great

My mother was Bitha Mae Coffman Tedder, my grandfather was William Turner
Coffman. His father was Daniel Webster (Wesley) Coffman. His siblings were
William Henderson, James Allen, Benjamin, Henry Pharris, Harrison Cane,
Robert, and Mary Ann. His father was John Coffman, who was wed to an Indian,
Ferriby, who was Cherokee. His father was also John Coffman (Kauffman or
Kaufman) from
Virginia. John came to the Montgomery, AR, valley area of Hopper in 1844/
1847, with his family and his wife's family (Cherokees). Any roll #s?? They
came from
Jackson Co., Ala/Tenn (the state line moved). There was a military land
grant for the AR land dated 8/1/1849. The Kauffman's were said to be German
and came to be Amish in Lancaster PA. They were supposed to have come from
Scotland to Germany and then to Holland and then here. Any further info??
