Hello,
I'm looking to find out where George and Esther COFFIN disappeared
to after
they married in Truro, Nova Scotia, in 1882.
At the time of his marriage George E. COFFIN listed himself as a
Railway
man. However, someone just told me that just a few years before
1882, he
was still living with his widowed mother in Nantucket, MA, and was
listed as
a Mariner.
In the 1881 Census, George COFFIN is listed in the household of
John and
Mary LEWIS in Truro, NS. They were newlyweds with a
baby. Mary was the
former Mary CORKILL, and George married her younger sister, Esther.
(George was about 40 and Esther was about 20.)
I can't find them after 1882. I am curious whether they had many
children, as Mary went on to have 13, and their other sister, Julia
McNUTT,
had 10.
Happy New Year!
Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

Dear members,
I do appreciate the efforts some members have already taken in
response to my urging to get people posting. But please, don't hit
"reply" and send my message back to the list. Instead, open a new
email, with your own Subject and then post your data.
Looking forward to your post.
Thanks and best wishes

Seeking family information:
Herbert H Coffin was born in Bridgewater, Mass (circa 1870?). Married
Catherine Murphy of Avon, Mass. They were living in Rockland, Mass in
1916. They had a son, Alvin A Coffin, born 1895 - died 1918.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much,
Judy (Coffin) Simpson
I saw the following obit in The Register (Berwick, Quebec) dtd 22
Feb 1874:
"Capt. Peter Coffin d. at Petite-Riviere (Quebec) Thursday last, at
the residence of his son Rev. J. S. Coffin, aged 95 yrs."
Can someone help me place these folks?
Gordon
John Williams and Hereld Stuart,
It was indeed a very nice Biography of Frank R. Coffin .
I was surprised to find that he is a descendent of William & Priscilla
(Paddock) Coffin, Nantucket, MA>Guilford Co., NC in 1773. This
family is my
speciality -- yes, the whole bunch of them for William & Priscilla
are my
4G-Grandparents. Some of my materials, I have left at home, while we
winter in Arizona, but I will do what I can to locate the rest of your
Coffins.
I find Franklin R. Coffin, s/o Thomas Chalkley Coffin & Mary Harvey;
Seventh Generation of Line D of John, in "The Coffin Family", edited by
Louis Coffin, 1962, NHA (Nantucket Historical Assoc.), on page
297.. Willam
Coffin m Priscilla Paddock & their children can be found on page
269 in "The
Coffin Family".
The first 4 or 5 generations of LT John Coffin's Line may be
cross-referenced using "The History of Nantucket" by Alexander
Starbuck,
1924. Remember, that these people were Quakers and you will find
then in the
Quaker Monthly Meetings records,. I have a list of families who
transferred
certificates from Nantucket MM, MA to New Garden MM, NC (in
Guilford Co.).
The Biography of Frank R. Coffin states that some served the
colonial cause
in the Revolution -- that included William Coffin (m.
Priscilla) as their
house was taken for the hospital of the American Officers of the
American
Revolutionary War. More interesting stuff in those books.
I also know that David P. Coffin, editor of Coffin Family
NewsLetter has
select pages of some of this Line -- CoffinNews(a)aol.com (I think,
but.not
sure for I'm on my Laptop.) As I recall, he has feature stories
about William
& Priscilla, about William, Jr. and about Elihu.
***
As an aside, Elihu had other descendents in Oregon (near Coos Bay,
which
is near the Pacific Ocean). I descend from William & Priscilla
(Paddock)
Coffin's granddaughter, Priscilla Coffin, b. 1796, m Himelius
Mendenhall with
daughter, Elvira (Mendenhall) Moore homesteading near The Dalles,
Wasco
Co., OR. I grew up on her homestead with my father farming all of
the MOORE
Pioneer Lands!
Enjoy your research.
