Family trees on Ancestry.com have Elizabeth as the daughter of Speir Coffield and Sallie Hunter. Dates make this impossible. Elizabeth's estimated date of birth is 1760. Matthew and Elizabeth married in 1787. Speir Coffield was born in 1798 and Sallie Hunter was born in 1801.
Was she the daughter of Speir Coffield (1728-1777)and West Duck (d 1813)?

I'm sorry to hear of Martha's passing, I corresponded with her first back in the late 70s/early 80s and then again a few years back. We were never able to determine a link between our Cofield lines. I am a descendant of Thomas Nathan Cofield b.1790 died ca 1872 randolph County, AL. For what its worth, I got in touch with Martha as a result of seeing the book The Cofield Collection on William Faulkner which included a picture of your grandfather(?), who bore a resemblance to some of my Cofield relatives.
I am the administrator of the Ccfield/Coffield DNA Surname Study at Familytreedna.com, and if you or another male Cofield in your line could participate it would be very helpful and valuable information. You can find the study by going to ftdna.com and searching for Cofield under Surname Studies. Any test would be useful, but if you could do at least a 37 marker test that would be most valuable. Be sure to join the surname study before ordering a test as that gets you a discount.
Thanks, David Cofield

I'm John B. Cofield from Memphis. I believe I'm correct in saying that John G. Cofield is my gr-gr-gr-grandfather. My mother, Martha Cofield, from Oxford, MS did years of work on the Cofield family. I know my line goes back starting with me then John Robert Cofield, Jr.>John Robert Cofield, Sr.>John Isaac Cofield>John Bryant Cofield>John Gray Cofield. They were all from Cordele, Pinehurst and Hawkinsville, GA. My mother passed away 3 years ago and I have been going through her papers for the DAR and UDC in Lafayette Cty, MS and I have found alot of Cofield info. The GA Cofields starting with John Bryant were all professional photographers and I have photographs of John Bryant coming forward. I can be contacted at johnbcofield(a)gmail.com. Will be glad to help in anyway possible. John Cofield
