I have been trying to find out what happened to my Grandmother's sister - Ellen Coffield. I have her birth certificate, born: 6 Green Row, Inverness in 1903 to parents Timothy Coffield & Mary Jane Butler. My Grandmother (also Mary Jane) was born later in the Black Isle Poorhouse in 1906. The family spent many years moving around the North East of Scotland receiving poor relief. In 1909 Timothy died and it is likely that his wife Mary Jane gave her daughters up for adoption. I found my grandmother on the 1911 census living with another family (no name change)in Elgin but have yet been unable to trace Ellen. There are no Scottish marriage or death records for her and I have spent many years checking emmigration records - she appears to have disappeared. Is this possible?
Having reached a dead end and run out of ideas completely thought I would take the plunge and ask for help - any ideas...anyone?
Many thanks!
