Not a lot, but here it is: In 1820, Dicy is shown as a female Coffield family head, but I have not connected her to a Coffield family. Both of these ladies were subjects of Bastardy bonds. The two children with Dicy were born while she was unmarried. Dicey Coffield in February 1817 names Nathan Mires, Edward Bird, and Reddick White as Bondsmen for the first child to assure support of the child. It is not clear if one or all were the suspected father or just an interested party. Two years later Dicy Coffield names Tristram Capehart , Elisha Tomes, and Robt. C. Watson under the same circumstance. Dicy would have been born a Coffield, probably about 1800. Before 1830, Dicy Coffield married Staten Brown and their household is shown in 1830 with six children, one over 10 years of age .
Good hunting, Bill

Dicy is an ancestor of mine born in1799 or 1800 in Bertie Co. NC. She had 2 illegitimate children by 1820 and then married my ggggrandfather Staten Brown.
there are rumors of Native and African American blood there somewhere. Anything would be appreciated.
