I just found this record:
1805, Lower Ferry, Susquehannah, West Nottingham, 3rd District, Cecil Co., MD: A Thomas COFFIELD shows up on the tax assessment records of Cecil Co., MD. He owns no acres, but has other property worth $222.
It occurs to me that he might be a brother of John Coffield, whose family came from Co. Antrim, Ireland in 1798, and supposedly lived for a while near New Castle, DE, not too far from Cecil Co., MD. He died in 1800 and after some time his family moved to Washington Co., PA.

It's in northeast Maryland. So, no, not really. But many people came this way to get to the National Road, which started at the western end of the Potomoc River:

I also found a bill of sale for this man, if anyone is interested.
