Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Good morning!
Just a reminder about the new Rootsweb mailing lists; this list was recently updated as described in an e-mail sent to all subscribers August 11.
You should see few differences, but here are some things to be aware of:
1) A new send-to address has been provided for the list:
coffield(a)rootsweb.com
The old ones, <coffield-L(a)rootsweb.com> and <coffield-D(a)rootsweb.com>, still work, but they will eventually be phased out. So you might as well start getting in the habit of using the new address format right away.
2) If you have set your e-mail program to use a filter to catch your messages and process them somehow (to move them to a folder, for example), you may need to change the filter. In particular, the To: address in the message header no longer depends on the way you receive mail, but will instead reflect what the author uses, and so could vary between any of the following:
> To: coffield(a)rootsweb.com
> To: coffield-l(a)rootsweb.com
> To: coffield-d(a)rootsweb.com,
If you have set up a filter to catch one of these To: addresses, you need to change it to use a standard format. Depending on the e-mail program you use, you may want to use one of the following header fields, which don't distinguish between list and digest mode:
> Sender: coffield-bounces(a)rootsweb.com
> X-Loop: coffield(a)rootsweb.com
> X-BeenThere: coffield(a)rootsweb.com
> List-Id: <coffield.rootsweb.com>
Note the latter uses a period rather than @ before "rootsweb.com", and has brackets that can help distinguish it -- it can be useful if you can only do a message-wide pattern match.
3) A single e-mail address can only be subscribed once to the list; i.e. you cannot subscribe in both list and digest mode unless you use two separate e-mail addresses.
4) The list mail is being sent from a new set of servers. Your spam filter may therefore overreact, and junk it (apparently this is a particular problem on AOL). You should therefore check your junk mail folder to see if you've missed anything, and acknowledge this list's messages as OK to train the spam filter.
Please let me know if you have any questions or difficulties. You can also subscribe to the List-Update mailing list to ask questions: <http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/n/null.html#LIST-UPDATE>.
