There is a message on the bulletin board in response to one of my queries. The writer a Coffield wrote the information taken from some early writings. it tells of the sons' great strength (either the Coffield boys in America but more likely the family in Ireland), the attractiveness of the young men, my ancestor's trip to America with the death of several young children, and the ship itself. Elizabeth Rawden's family came over with the Coffields, also from Co. Antrim, Ireland, but doesn't give their names. The message is quite lengthy, but I don't have a copy right now.

Please explain in more detail your statement: "...heard of 5 Coffield boys back in Ireland during my research. They were all quite strong. More than one may have come to America when or about the same time as Laurence. They came from County Antrim, Ireland if my recollection serves me well."
Is this information you give from a published source or is this something you have discovered through researching records?
There are several of us who are frustrated because our particular COFFIELD ancestor "from Ireland" to America during the 1700's has been difficult to research. Have you discovered new information? Please advise.
Thanks, Linda Pugh
Does anyone know if a Coffield/Cofield Y-Line DNA research project is
underway? I know of three companies, www.familytreeDNA.com, ancestry.com,
and www. oxfordancestors.com which do research on Y-Line DNA from males who
believe they are related through their direct male line ancestry. I am a
descendant of Gresham Coffield, who died in Twiggs County, Georgia in the
1820s. He was almost certainly a descendant of Gresham Coffield who arrived
in Virginia in 1638. Are there other Coffield/Cofield men who believe
themselves to be descendants of Gresham the Immigrant who would be
interested in participating in a DNA research project? John David Cofield,
son of John Ray Cofield, son of Millard Franklin Cofield, son of Cosby
Grissom Cofield, son of Cosby Vina Cofield, son of Thomas Nathan Cofield,
son of Gresham Cofield/Coffield.

I realized I didn't mention Harriet Coffield's sister Anna Elizabeth. They may have had a brother of whom I have no records, but as of now I am not aware of any more children. If I find any mention of more siblings I will post my findings. Otherwise it might be good too look into the Ireland connections

My Coffield line goes back to Laurence (Lawrence) Coffield born in 1780 in Ireland. He married Elizabeth Rawden 1773 born in Ireland. They had 6 children as far as I could find out. Their son James b. aft 1810 in PA died in infancy. Their son Thomas b. 1815 married Isabella Sharp b. 1816. Their daughter Harriet Reid Coffield b. 1848 OH married my great-grandfather William Louis Burcher b. 1841 OH. Their youngest son Robert Todd Burcher b. 1889 KS is my mother's father.
Sorry I can't tie my line in with yours, but heard of 5 Coffield boys back in Ireland during my research. They were all quite strong. More than one may have come to America when or about the same time as Laurence. They came from County Antrim, Ireland if my recollection serves me well.
Good luck in your search.
