Which parts are incorrect?
1. George was the son of Johann Christoph and Anna Sara.
2. George was born 1730 in Germany.
3. He married Anna Eleanor Wolff and then Clara Wolff, both daughters of
Jacob Wolf.
Jacob Wolf's will of 1799 mentions his daughter Clara
Kauffeldt/Coffield, widow, so George did marry Clara, I've not found any
trace of an Anna Eleanor, but then I've not done much with early
Shennadoah records.
The name Kauffeldt became Coffeld/Coffield in the (W)VA are in the
1800s.

My husband is also a descendant of Johann Christoph Kauffeldt and his second
(American) wife, Maria Margaret. Your Peter is the son of his first wife,
Anna Sara Dillman-Degen, and born in Germany. I found the book "Kauffelds
(Coffelt) in America" by by Robert John Coffelt and Joan Wikman-Coffelt
(1995) very useful for the early generations of this family, down to about
1800. At that point my husband's line becomes inaccurate, because it is a
collateral line for the authors and they don't have original data. The
address for the Coffelts is:
Coffelt and Coffelt Publishing
1610 Redwood Lane
Davis CA 95616
I think the book cost about $30, but I can't really remember. They also
mention a National Coffelt Historical Association, but I have not followed
up on that.
I got from the book that Johann Christoph and Anna Sara had a 3rd son George
Kauffeldt, born 1730 in Germany, who married Anna Eleanor Wolff and then
Clara Wolff, both daughters of Jacob Wolf. Does this help?

My probable gggggrandfather Gresham Coffield/Cofield was born ca 1750 in
either NC or VA. He appears in Burke County GA on land lottery lists in
1805 and 1807, in Warren County GA deeds in 1809, in Putnam County GA tax
lists in 1812, and in Twiggs County, GA in 1818 and on the 1821 land
lottery list for Twiggs County. In the 1827 land lottery an S.Cofield drew
in Twiggs County as widow of a Revolutionary soldier. Unfortunately Twiggs
County's courthouse burned in 1901 and all records were destroyed. Gresham
had three known sons, Willis born 1778 NC, died 1850 Troup County, GA, John
born 1786 NC died 1873 Washington County, GA, and Thomas Nathan, born 1790
NC died ca 1872 Randolph County, AL. Gresham is NOT the Gresham Coffield
who was son of Benjamin Coffield who died 1770 in Edgecombe County, NC.
That Gresham went to KY, not GA. According to LDS records, a Grissom
Cofield, born ca 1752, was son of William Coffield "of Nansemond County, VA"
and his wife Mary or Pamelia. Mary Pamelia was the name of one of Thomas
Nathan's grandchildren in the 1800s. Names of other children of this
William and Mary or Pamelia are: William, Willis, Thomas, Mary, and Slater.
All except Slater are names which frequently recurred among Thomas Nathan
Cofield's descendants. Has anyone seen any records on this Gresham Cofield?
He probably lived in Bertie County, NC, in the 1780s. David Cofield
Try this one you will find cofield for GA as far back as 1834. Good luck.
Just click on the blue and then type in your surname and go. <A

My name is Gene Cofield. I am looking for information concerning my Great grandfather. George Washington cofield is from the Monroe, Walton County Georgia area. He married Octavia Mayfield and had 7 children: Alice, Edna, Eta, Claude, Virgil, Emory and Eli (later known as Eugene) Any info would be appreciated
Thanks
Does anyone know of a Coffield/Mitchell Connection?
James Coffield Mitchell, son of James Mitchell and ___ Coffield?, was born
10 Mar 1786 in Augusta Co. VA and served as a Congressman in Washington from
TN. On 7 May 1807 in Sevier Co., TN he m. Margaret Lewis, b. in Shenandoah
Co., VA, daughter of Mordechi Lewis and Mary Ziegler (Sigler). His siblings
were William m. Eve Conatser (Knortzer), John m. Sarah Andes, Betsy, Nancy
m. Archibald Lewis b. Shenandoah Co., VA, Mary, and Samuel B. Mitchell, d.
Knox Co., TN.
I will appreciate any Coffield information relating to these Mitchells.
Virginia
My Grandmother was Tincy Jane Coffield who married John Riichard Williams in Henry County Alabama in 1876. Her parents were James Cofield, he died in the civil war I believe, and Amanda Segars who were living in Dale County Alabama in 1860 in the home of Jame's father Nelson Cofield. Nelson married first a woman named Jane in Qwinette County Georgia in the late 1820 and secondly he married Rebecca Justice in Barbour County Alabama in 1861. By 1870 he is in Bullock County Alabama.

Thanks for all the info. I've had a hunch Laughlins were involved. The bit
about the Irish father and Squaw mother is very interesting........

My GGG Grandmother was Mary Coffield (1818 - 1883), who married John
Cranston (1811 - 1881) in 1834 in Guernsey Co., OH. They moved soon after to
what was then Monroe Co. and is now Noble Co.
A cousin gave me a lot of information extending Mary's ancestry back a
couple of generations, but little in the way of primary or even secondary
sources, and I haven't had time to verify much of this. I've also found
other Coffields in Noble Co. whose connection is unknown. In particular, I
ended up with two James Coffields [1.3a.5 and 1.3a.6] who apparently aren't
the same person and who probably aren't brothers as I've indicated below
:-).
Hopefully someone else can connect in here somewhere; I'll be happy to
provide what sources I do have.

Catherine had married Jonas Caton in 1844. so I guess Catherine was both her
mother and mother-in -law.
2nd. same source; William C. Laughlin mar. Mary Susan Coffelt, 27 Oct. 1869.
Groom was widowed, b. in Rockbridge Co., residing in Shenandoah. s/o Hugh &
Mary Laughlin. Mary Susan was d/o Catherine Coffelt/Caton.Somewhere in the
material there is mention of one of these people having an Irish father & an
Indian Squaw for a mother. I can't figure out who they are talking abt.
Also there is a Franklin Willis Laughlin b. 5/28/1872, d. 5/12/1948. s/o
William & Mary Susan Coffelt Laughlin.
And Annie Catherine Laughlin, b. 7/13/1870 d. 7/24/1897 d/o William & Mary
Susan Coffelt Laughlin.
Dora Mae Laughlin b. 1/13/1884 , d. 3/8/1970
That's abt it. But there are more Laughlins, but I don't have them.

BINGO - you and I are cousins. You said the right name. My 8th great
grandfather is Martin Wetzel. Let me take you data and evaluate it and then
let you know what I have. I know this sounds silly, but, I'm doing the
happy dance right now. A connection hopefully. "hugs"
Judi - yep, I'm happy

My name is Bob Coffield and I am searching for a link back beyond my
great-great grandfather, George Coffield. My grandparents were Albert
Lee Coffield (1884-1936) & Susan Austia (Yoho) Coffield; great
grandparents were Robert Coffield(1846-1936) & Nancy Virginia (Yoho)
Coffield; great great grandparents were George Coffield (Mar 10, 1805 -
Jan 18, 1876) & Isabelle (Arkle) Coffield (1813-1878).
George Coffield lived in Marshall Co., West Virginia near McCreary
Ridge. He moved to Wetzel Co. (Proctor area) during middle age. I have
not been able to confirm who the parents of George Coffield are - they
may be J Coffield and wife, Jane M. Coffield. These two individuals were
buried in the McCreary Cemetery. I have tried to link the family to the
Coffield family coming out of the Shenandoah Valley area - but have not
made a direct link.
Also would be interested in anyone who has information on Mary Coffield
(I think Mary was her name 0-but don't have my notes with me here at
work) who married Martin Wetzel (older brother to Lewis Wetzel, a well
known Indian fighter in the Upper Ohio Valley area of Marshall, Ohio Co.
WV). I believe that this Mary Coffield who married Martin would have
been around the time that my George Coffield would have been in the area
and thought there may be a brother/sister or other relational link.

I have two different Coffield lines - one in my grandmother's line and one in
my grandfather's line ... I am trying to find proof of a connection between
the two lines.
George Coffelt married Ann Clara Wolf, dau. of Jacob Wolf, about 1760 in
Frederick Co., VA. ... George Coffelt died in 1787 in Shenandoah Co., VA.
They had 10 children.
My second Coffield ancestors is Peter Coffield the first husband of Catherine
Holler. Peter was the son of Johann Christoph Kauffeldt of York Co., PA.
Peter died in Frederick County, VA on 29 May 1767. Catherine (Holler)
Coffield m. 2nd Jacob Surber on 10 April 1768. Peter and Catherine had 3
children (Peter Coffeld, Catherine Coffield & Elizabeth Coffeld). Catherine
had 5 more children by her 2nd husband.
Amy Gilreath
Anna Rebecca Coffelt, b. 1847, to Joel/Jewel Coffelt and Catherine Walters.
Catherine Coffelt married Jonas Caton Oct. 2 1864, in Shenandoah Co. Va.,
after the death of Joel.
Anna married Jonas Caton's son William in 1870, and died in 1930, in
Shenandoah Co. Va.
This family is extremely difficult to locate much info on, they also married
some Laughlins in the same county.
Sorry to send this early, but if it stays pretty, have to mow the grass this
pm.
Will appreciate any help, and will gladly contribute any thing else I have
on this family or any of the others in my database.

Hi all!
This list has been rather quiet of late, so let's get some
conversation going! This weekend, starting Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Missouri time, lets start a "Roll Call".
A roll call is where you send the surnames that you are researching to
the list. I want to let everyone know that e-mail traffic will be up,
hopefully, during this time and to expect it.
The format we will use for the roll call is this:
In the subject line put your surname, dates, etc., then in the body
put what information that could get others to check and connect with
you. Like this:
Subject: Pleasant Coffelt, Kentucky, 1815
Pleasant Coffelt was born approximately 1815 to Jacob and Susannah
(Wyatt) Coffelt.
Records show that Pleasant married Clary Ritchie November 27, 1837 in
Gasconade Co., Missouri and the couple had the following children:
Mary F., 1841; Saphira, 1841; Rebecca Jane, 22 April 1844; Elizabeth,
1847; ......
(You get the picture)
Now, remember, we will start FRIDAY afternoon at 3 p.m. and continue
through Sunday at 6 p.m.
Looking forward to hearing from ALL of you!
Good luck!
