Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Subject: RootsWeb now blocking attachments and HTML
---------------------------------------
Hi, folks --
Well, it took almost two months longer than expected, but we're
right now installing a SmartList hack that blocks file attachments
(including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings.
Sorry about the delay: things have been crazy around here.
This note is to let you know how it works. When a member sends
something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a
non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the
member's message back to them, with a note at the very bottom
explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. A COPY OF THIS
REJECTION MESSAGE WILL BE SENT TO OWNERS AS WELL! That's because the
member may write back to you to complain or to ask for help, and
it can be pretty confusing if they write a reply to a message that
you never saw.
So when you as the listowner suddenly start getting messages from
YOURLIST-L-REQUEST(a)rootsweb.com, quoting some ungodly HTML mess
that you never saw before, don't be alarmed. :-) It just means
the list server is rejecting a MIME message that was sent to your
list, and that you may get a response from the poster.
Attachments and HTML will be blocked from every list alike.
Regards,
Tim Pierce

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for the Coffield connection to my Dixon/Dickson line in NC or VA.
Does anyone have any information about that? In Edgecombe co., NC, an "uncle"
of mine was named Coffield Dixon.
I'm also interested in the Coffield connection to the Ellis family in and
around Edgecombe co., NC.
Thanks so much.

I believe I have located my g-g-grandparents, Carl Bauer and his wife Sophie,
in the LDS IGI records, but I don't know what the location, given as
"Klocksen, M....schwe" can possibly mean. Also, I know absolutely nothing
about her maiden name, which seems to have been Kauffeld. Can anyone help?
These two were married about 1848, immigrated about 1850, and were in the 1870
census in San Francisco with two children, 8 and 6, who were reported as being
born in California. The census lists them as being from Schleswig-Holstein,
but family tradition says Carl Bauer was from Alsace.
Any information would help. I wouldn't know where else to look at this point.
Thanks in advance -
