Sylvia,
This is a new subject to me. I would love to get my hands on an old
Bible with some family names on it, but I would have the dilemma of how
much to offer, also.
Anybody else have any ideas?
Is anyone out there researching Michael Coffelt? I received the
following in my mailbox this morning and can't really help this person.
(My notes seem to be just as fuzzy as theirs <g>). They are not a
member of the list yet, so I am CCing this note to them. If you want to
reply to the whole group, you can hit the reply to all and Pat will get
the message too (if all goes as it is supposed to)!
Pat Dorton Warry (patricm(a)mail.netnitco.net) writes:
Michael Coffelt (who married (1) Catherine Blessing (2) Charlotte Cogel

it gets confusing. I would appreciate any information you might have
and
be willing to share.

Claire,
This is a bit off topic, but you mentioned belonging to a Bible list.
I've just made contact with a woman who owns a Bible she bought at an
auction. None of her family are in the record pages, but some of my
husband's family are in the record pages.
She is willing to sell the Bible, but admits that old Bibles do not go
for much, unless someone has a personal interest in the Bible.
She wants me to make an offer and I have no idea of what would be a fair
price or a good offer. I don't know anyone who has ever bought a Bible
like this. I really would appreciate some information about this topic.
Thanks

Valentine may be another brother, or he might be the son of Nicholas
Kauffeldt. There seems to be no definite proof, one way or the other.

Sylvia,
I vote for putting it to the whole list!! I found that to be most
helpful.
There has been quite a discussion on the Bible list lately of Coffelts.
I will forward those discussions to the group on my next post. I think
they will also be helpful.
Happy hunting,

Amy,
Here is the paragraph that is significant:
Johann Christoph Kauffeldt, b 1692, d 1752/54 is listed as the father of
Your Peter and my George.
p 23 " Tradition , not documentation, indicates that the following
children are progeny of Johann Christoph Kauffeldt. George and Elias
were brothers, but could have been the sons of Hans George Kauffeld.
Peter, Phillip, Christian(Christopher), Maria Elizabeth, and Susan
Catherine have been established as progeny of Christopher Kauffeld.
Henry may be the son of Phillip. we will follow tradition and list these
children as progeny of
Johann Christoph Kauffeldt. "
Is this kind of info helpful to any others on this list or should I just
post directly to Amy?
Sylvia
Amy, I'm sending this back to the list as maybe others would benefit
from this info.

That's because Jacob is a Sliger/ar, now besides being in the Sliger/ar
book I also found a reference to this Jacob Sligar & his wife Rebecca
Coffield on p 99. Her whole family is layed out on pages 98 & 99 of
"Kauffelds (Coffelt) in America". This is the 1992 book from Robert &
Sue Coffelt in Davis, CA.
Your Peter who mar Catherine Holler. There family is layed out beginning
p 26 of the same book. Peter according to this book is the brother of
George who mar Clara Wolf. I hope this is the book you bought, as the
the "Coffelt History Notebook" by Robert & Sue Coffelt of Clifton, TX
has very little info on your Peter, but it is on p 42. The above
mentioned Jacob Sliger/ar is on p 246.
I believe Kathy's original question was about Martha the sister of
Rebecca, who mar Jacob Sliger/ar. Neither book has her marriage. I hope
this is of some help to others.
Kathy,
You asked about:

I looked up Jacob Sliger/ar who married Rebecca Coffelt in the "Sliger
and Related Families In America" ( these are not my Sligars as they came
in the 1700s while my Sligar came in 1840, but I did get the book as I
was curious about these Sligers/ars)
p 91 - Rebecca Coffelt married Jacob Sliger in Washington Co TN 29 Sep
1830
p104 - Rebecca Coffelt married Jacob Sliger in Washington Co TN 18 Apr
1826, a daughter of Jacob Coffelt & Susannah Wyatt
On both pages Jacob was listed as born 19 May 1801 even thought the
marriage dates differ. Perhaps some of this info will help you with
Martha, if her parents were Jacob Coffelt & Susannah Wyatt
Sylvia
Kathy,
Sorry, but what I sent out was all the information I have. You might
try as Four-1-1 or other search for them in Texas. Maybe their phone
will be listed and you could call them.

Do you know how much to send for the COFFELT HISTORY NOTEBOOK? That is the
other book I saw at the Family History Library and some information in it is
the same; some is different. It also doesn't focus on exactly the same
people as the other ones but does focus in on my line so I definitely want to
order it.

I've been working on the Coffield line and came across this e-mail. I have
never been able to place Penelope Coffield wife of Dempsey Grimes. Dempsey
was in Edgecombe Co. in 1762 and closely connected to Benjamin Coffield and
his family. Benjamin named his second daughter Penelope. Benjamin's son
Gresham named his oldest son Dempsey Coffield. I have wondered if Penelope
was a sister of Benjamin and Speir Coffield. If so, they came from
Nansemond Co., VA, where all of the courthouse records burned in the later
1800's making research difficult.
Did Dempsey's daughter marry a Coffield or is Coffield her middle name?
