Sylvia,
Just a quick note on the George Coffelt, Jr. (son of George) ... this is my
ancestor and I know he is the one married to Ann Elizabeth Druck (married 20
April 1803) ... Their first child, Elizabeth Coffelt was born in 1805 [she is
also my ancestor] ... The Geoge Coffield [b. 23 Nov 1792] who m. Elizabeth
Voltz /Foltz was m. in 1814 ... He is the son of Peter Coffelt, Jr. (son of
Peter Coffelt) ...
I have never heard of two wives of George Coffelt, Senior ... only Ann Clara
Wolf, daughter of Jacob Wolf who named her in his will ...

Children:

On p 42 is a land deed to George Coffield and his Heirs, at the bottom
of p 41 is mention that the children were listed in the estate
settlement.
There are differences in the number of children and their spouses and of
course there is the extra wife for George. Now supposedly the children
were taken from the same estate/will papers. Slight variations of names,
I can understand after looking at old documents, but the 2 wives of
George has me puzzled.
Does anyone know about the 1st wife, Anna Eleanor Wolf?
Canadochly Records, can some one tell me what these are?
Hi All,
Are the 2 books mentioned by Kathy Willett and Mary L. Henke, as being
in Salt Lake, the 2 books listed below, or are there still other books
about the Coffields available?

Hi Amy,
Thank you for the deed information. I really do appreciate it as I
haven't researched out of the Marshall & Ohio County areas as I am still
not done there.
>Do you have Jacob Coffield's wife's last name????
The sources that gave me the early material I have, stated that Jane was
a McCreary.
There was a Thomas McCreary living in Marshall Co and he had a daughter
Jane born in Md. Jane is mentioned in her father's 1802 will filed Ohio
Co, p 56 will bk 1. Then Jane married Jacob Coffield in 1804. There is
no record in Ohio Co, so this must be a Bible record. In the 1850 census
Jane, age 68, b Md is living with her son William. She is listed with
the same son, William in the 1860 census, now age 81, b Md.
There is no death date for Jacob Coffield, but he is not listed in the
1850 census. His estate is in probate in 1854. Jane died between 1860
and 1870. Jacob may be buried in one of the unmarked graves in McCreay
cemetery, probably Jane is also.
These are the bits and pieces I have so far.
Sylvia
I am sorry rooters when I posted the information on Peter Coffel(Kofell) I
neglected to say this information was from a DAR appplication #628467, it
is not my line & I don't have anymore information on him. Also the marriage
took place in 1775 not 1757
I also have a list of Coffield ( and variations ) marriages of Shenandoah
Co.Va. It is to long to post but I will be happy to do lookups. I was also
going to list some Will abstracts that Kathy sent me but she suggested we
wait until our Coffield books arrive as they have more information ( she
has seen them, I haven't )so will wait...Mary

Sylvia,
You probably have the order of birth right because mine has come from several
different sources ... Most came from:
Shenandoah Co, VA Deed Bk Z, p. 188 - 31 March 1819
Between George Coffelt & Ann Elizabeth his wife, John Adam Coffelt,
Margaret Coffelt, Henry Bower and Magdalene his wife, Peter Sine and Christina
his wife, George Sine, Philip Sine & Mary his wife and Susanna Sine of County
of Shenandoah, and Jacob Coffelt and Jane his wife and Martin Wetzel and Ann
Maria his wife of County of Ohio [to] John McAfee of County of Shenandoah ...
for and in consideration of eight hundred pounds ... all their title interest
and claim being eight nineths & three fourths of a tract of Land being part of
a larger tract granted to Jacob Woolf the elder dec'd. by patent from the
proprietors office and devised by his last Will and Testament to Clara Coffelt
and Susannah Kelp the said George Coffelt & John Adam Coffelt having purchased
the right of Susannah Kelp ... containing two hundred acres ...
Wit: none signed by:
Christena (X) Sine
George (X) Sine
Philip (X) Sine
Mary (X) Sine
Susanna (X) Sine
George (X) Coffelt
Ann Elizabeth (X) Coffelt
John Adam (X) Coffelt
Margaret (X) Coffelt
Clary (X) Coffelt
Henry Bower (in German)
Modelene (X) Bower
Peter (X) Sine
Jacob (J) Coffelt
Jane Coffelt
Martin Whetzel
Recorded: 13 April 1819 Ann
Maria Whetzel
I show George Coffelt, Sr. married to Ann Clara Wolf, dau. of Jacob Wolf (the
one mentioned in above Deed) ... Jacob Wolf mentions in his Will in 1795 -
Dau. Ann Clara, widow of George Caufeld (dec'd.) ...
The George Coffelt who married Elizabeth Voltz/Foltz belongs to my other
Coffield line ... that marriage didn't take place until 1814 - George would
have been over 60 years old ... It sure gets confusing. I am ordering the
Coffelt History book but don't have it yet.
Amy
Bob,
Thank you for your timely reply ... I have the following on your Jacob
Coffield:
2 Aug. 1826 - Shenandoah Co., VA Deed Bk EE, p. 468
Between Jacob Coffelt who was one of the sons and heirs of George Coffelt
dec'd. of County of Ohio Commonwealth of Virginia [to] Peter Sine of County
of Shenandoah ... consideration of One hundred & fifty dollars .... one equal
undivided eighth part or share of a tract of Land containing Three hundred
acres on Stoney Creek and being the same land which was granted to said George
Coffelt dec'd. by the Right Honorable Thomas Lord Fairfax ...
Wit: A. Rinker Jacob (X) Coffelt
Recorded: 2 Aug. 1826
On 29 Sept. 1827 (Deed Bk FF, p. 507) Martin Wetzell and Ann Mary his wife
also sell their share to Peter Sine ...
The above should be your proof of parentage ... Do you have Jacob Coffield's
wife's last name????
Amy Gilreath
My second COFFIELD ancestor is Peter Coffield:
PETER COFFIELD married Catharine HALLER/Holler ... Catherine was born between
1740-45 in Lancaster Co., PA ... Peter died 29 May 1767 in Frederick County,
VA ... Catherine (Haller) Coffield then married Jacob Surber on 10 April 1768
in Frederick Co., VA - they moved to Ohio. Children by Peter Coffield:
i Peter Coffeld d. bef 1820
m. Catherine Miller on 4 Apr 1790 VA
ii Catherine Coffeld
m. John Dake on 3 Dec 1785
iii Elizabeth Coffeld
unmarried
Catherine had 5 more children by her second husband, Jacob Surber.
Will share info with anyone working on these lines ...
Thanks,
Amy Gilreath

I am new to the COFFIELD Board ... I have two Coffield lines (one through my
grandmother and the other through my grandfather) which are probably connected
as they are both from Frederick/Shenandoah County, VA area, but I have not
made a connection between the two yet ...
GEORGE COFFELT married Ann Clara Wolf, dau. of Jacob Wolf, about 1760 in
Frederick Co., VA ... George died in 1787 Shenandoah Co., VA. Their children
(not necessarily in order of birth):
i Margaret Coffeld b. ca 1763
ii Christina Coffelt b. 28 Sept 1764
m. Peter Sine on 5 May 1792
iii John Adam Coffield
iv Clara Coffield b. ca 1767
v George Kauffeld [this is my ancestor]
m. Ann Elizabeth Druck on 20 Apr 1803
vi Jacob Coffeld
m. Jane ___
vii Catharine Coffelt b. ca 1773
viii Magdalene (Polly) Coffelt
m. Henry Bower on 12 March 1796
ix Ann Marie Coffelt
m. Martin Wetzel
If anyone can fill in any of the blanks - I would appreciate it. Will send my
second line of COFFIELDs in a different post ...
Thanks,

Kathy,
You must have been the lady who called from Salt Lake City, just before
I called Mrs. Coffelt to order my book!! We had a wonderful little chat
and it seems that her husband is descended from James brother of my
Pleasant!! They are very near to me (about an hour-and-a-half drive) so
I think I will pop in and visit. She said the love to get company.
She also said that they were in MO this last summer and visited the old
homestead and that part of the original fence surrounding the property
is still there. Just to be able to sit and talk with these folks would
be a great experience.
The historical book, is that theirs also? Maybe I will have to call
back!!

I've just seen 2 books at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City on the
COFFELT/KAUFFELT family; one is a genealogy and one is a history narrative
which does include some genealogy. I can't say whether every single line is
totally correct in them because I haven't verified them all but there is a
lot of information on the people that most of us are looking for and some
interesting stories, pictures, wills and source information.
Before copying all the pages I was interested in, I called the authors'
number which was on the title page and found that there are still books
available and the price is $15 per book. I have ordered one of each and for
my COFFELT line which descends from Philip and Nelly (Ryan) COFFELT; there
was quite a bit of data. There was even a photograph of my ancestor's
(Abraham COFFELT b. 1793) tombstone in Osage Co, MO!
If anyone is interested in ordering one or both or just in contacting the
authors, here's the information that you need:
Robert John Coffelt
Joan Wikman-Coffelt, Ph.D.
1610 Redwood Lane
Davis, CA 95616

Hope this helps many of us!

Sylvia,
I spent one evening cutting and pasting all variations of Coffelts from
the FTM site to look up at a late date. I saved the info to a text
file, so if you can get attachments I can send it on to you. It lists
the name and the CD on which it can be found.
I can send it to anyone else, too. Just let me know.

Hi All,
I have found the descendancy of Elias Coffelt on disc 5 of Broderbund's

Coffield/Coffelts on any of their other CDROMs?

Do any of you know if there are TWO Pleasant Coffelts? Or if Bolware

I have a question that is related to Coffelt in a round about way.
Rebecca Ann Bennett married Samuel Wyatt. Their daughter was Susanna
Wyatt who married Jacob Coffelt. In searching for the marriage record
of Susanna and Jacob, I have come across a marriage of Mrs. Rebecca
Wyatt to Hedgman Anderson on July 14, 1813 in Nelson County, Kentucky.
I show that Rebecca died in Laurel County, Kentucky. (I have no idea
when or where Samuel died) Could this be the same Rebecca?
Now for a Coffelt question
I have been searching for the marriage of Pleasant Coffelt to Cloe
Crouch. I have found a marriage about the correct time for Pleasant and
Clary Richy. Could it be that someone with flowing handwriting wrote
this document and the transcriber mistook Cloe for Clary and Richy for
Crouch? Pleasant and Cloe were my Rebecca Jane's parents and are listed
on her death certificate in 1925.
Any input from the experts would be appreciated.
Hugs,
Claire

We are trying to find some information on a John Coffelt from York
County , Pa.
who married a Della Fretwell from Rockbridge County, Va. The only other
information we have about him is that he died somewhere around 1945 .
They
had three daughters Doris, Betty and Mary Ann who ended up in different
foster homes.
Mary Ann is my mother-in-law and has very little memory of her father.

Hello Cousins!!
Remember back a bit, Craig sent through a message about his plans for
the future and the Coffield list? He made a plea for someone to step
forward to take over the reins. Well, since the rest of you took one
step backwards, I guess I am elected<giggle>!!
Craig has done a great job with this list and I only hope I can follow
in his footsteps. Thank you, Craig!
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me privately at
the e-mail address below. Things will run just the same as they did
before!!
Happy hunting!!
