Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I tried to access Linda Stout's Tri-County Researcher (West Virginia) Web
page at:
http://www.ovnet.com/~trc/ which was referred to by Sylvia Sligar and
received a message "requested URL /~trc/ was not found on this server."
Sylvia, do you have any suggestions on what the problem may be?
Anne Rast
Hi Craig,
I meant to put Linda Stout's email address in the message, but neglected to
do so.
tcr(a)ovnet.com.
The Linda also has a Tri-County Researcher Web page at:
http://www.ovnet.com/~trc/
The Researcher covers Marshall, Tyler, & Wetzel Counties in WV.
Sylvia
Hi Craig,
I'm getting the idea of how to use this mail list, sorry I sent my last email
directly to you instead of the list.
>Several Elizabeth COFFIELDs are known in the area
>and era; one is related to the STOUT line.
Have you made contact with Linda Goddard Stout about this lady. Linda is the
editor of the Tri-County Researcher. She has done some research on Coffields for
Belle Deaver and she she is a Stout.
Sylvia
The COFFIELD/(COFIELD/KAUFIELD/CAUFIELD/KAUFFELD/COFFELT) mail list is now
up and running.
Obviously (since you are reading this), I have subscribed you. You should
have already gotten full details on how to unsubscribe.
Just send a message to
COFFIELD-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
unsubscribe
and no additional text.
Or, you may surf to:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/surnames/surnames-c.html
and scroll down to COFFIELD-L (or COFFIELD-D, the digest version), and
unsubscribe yourself.
Please, if you have questions, drop me an e-mail and I'll get right back to
you. In advance, thank you for your patience with me; as a new list
maintainer, I don't know nothin' 'bout this stuff.
THIS JUST IN:
1) Sylvia Sligar has kindly provided me with a few pages from the two
Kauffeld/Coffelt family histories she has, describing the origins of the
surnames and some history of family migrations. Sometime over the next few
weeks, I will type it in and post it on the mail list.
2) There are just the six of us for now:
cecrouch(a)cwo.com
anRast(a)worldnet.att.net
jestes(a)inetdirect.net
ssligar(a)worldnet.att.net
eleanormiley(a)prodigy.com
ANANDA30(a)aol.com
So, if you know others researching these surnames, let them know about the
list please. You will notice that I expanded the surname list to include
some obvious variations on Coffield.
3) For my part, I have obtained the names and addresses for 18 additional
World Family Tree submitters, and I will attempt to find any with e-mail
addresses from the net directories.
4) Thank you again, Ann Rast, for volunteering to pick up the list
maintainer duties in January 1998. I don't think this is going to be too
bad a job.
I recommend that we all introduce each other again, and summarize our
research interests. I know, let's talk about me!
I live in Rocklin, CA, near Sacramento, with my wife Paula (her passion is
quilting) and nearly 7-year-old son Morgan (trucks and cars!). I am
employed by Sacramento County as their drainage engineer, which has been
more excitement this year than I like.
I got interested in genealogy just two years ago, and was seriously infected
this time last year. Now, the routes taken on family vacations are skewed
towards County court houses and old family locales. The internet is the
only thing that really makes genealogy possible for me though, since I've
some years to go before I can travel at will. I have found the community of
genealogists on the internet to be as personable and patient as those I meet
at the Family History Centers.
I have not yet found ancestors of my Elizabeth COFFIELD PITTMAN (b. Abt
1735, probably in VA). Several Elizabeth COFFIELDs are known in the area
and era; one is related to the STOUT line. I am content to work on
background on the surname until the "break" on this line.
So, how about it? Please share a bit about each of you and the current bit
of grit in your genealogy oyster.
Craig
