My 2x great grandmother was born in either Aughrim Civil Parish or
Clontuskert Civil Parish, both in County Galway near the town of
Ballinasloe. Her name was Maria (Mary) Coffey and she married William
Burke of Northbrook, Civil Parish of Aughrim about 1844. She was born
about 1822 and died in Oct 1892 at her cottage at Northbrook. Her
husband William Burke predeceased her. Both are buried at Kilconnell
Abbey in the neighboring Parish of Kilconnell.
I have not found a birth record of Maria Coffey. Nor do I know her
parent;s names.
Maria's eldest daughter, Catherine (Kate) Coffey Burke, b. 1844, came to
New York City about 1868. Kate married John Nicholson by 1870 when she
appears in the Census of Kings County NY (Brooklyn). John was a plumber.
Their first born, a daughter Mary, my grandmother, was born in 1870.
Coffeys are common in the area around Ballinasloe.

Subject: [COFFEY] News and roll call
After being down for several weeks in Feb - Mar, the mailing list is
running again as the underlying software was upgraded. I'm still trying to
determine all the administrative things that have changed.
There is talk of closing inactive lists, so if we want to keep this list
alive we need to have some posts to the list.
Thus it seems we need to do a roll call of sorts to see who is still
interested in finding lost relatives.
My Coffey line is relatively clear back to the immigrant John Coffey who
came to the Isle of Wight, VA circa late 1600s having been born in Ireland
around 1620.
It ends with the death of my great aunt, Laura Coffey, in 1969, who never
married in a family of six girls of whom her youngest sister was my
grandmother, Annie Coffey, who died in 1981.
They were raised in Union County, GA a few miles west of Blairsville, GA.
Their father was a soldier in a unit raised in that area for the
Confederacy.
Ok, someone else's turn.

Over the years I have made contact with descendants and we have a private Facebook age where we share information, photos, etc. I was fortunate to meet some of them as we took a cross county trip last year. We are always hoping to find more cousins.
