Helen Gay Coffey Keith Helen Gay Coffey Keith of Agricola died Friday, May
10, 2013, at Virginia Baptist Hospital after a short illness. She was born
in Alto, (Coffeytown) Va., on April 1, 1922, the eleventh of twelve
children born to Hiter and Mary Fanny (Mamie) Coffey. She was a homemaker and a
member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church in Agricola where she served
as pianist/organist and church treasurer. She was also an active charter
member of the Pedlar Valley Garden Club. She was employed by the Lynchburg
Livestock Market from 1941 until her retirement in 2004. Helen was much loved
by her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her. She was
especially proud of her great-grandchildren, and took part in all
activities involving them and their families. She was very independent until her
illness and enjoyed her weekly Rook games and get-togethers with her friends.
Helen was the wife of the late R. Lewis Keith; and is survived by her
three children. Bob Keith, Beverly K. Campbell and husband, Bruce, and Rita K.
Jefferson and husband, Tom. She was grandmother to Kathryn J. Cook and
husband, Benjie, Mike Jefferson, Amy Campbell, Kate C. McPhatter and husband,
Chet, and Rob Campbell; and great-grandmother to Emma McPhatter, Claire
McPhatter, Chase McPhatter, Lauryn Cook and Landon Cook. Visitation will be
held from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, in
Madison Heights and at other times at the residence. A funeral service
will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at the funeral home by
Pastors Joyce Austin and Carey Lamb. Interment will follow at Keith family
cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Helen's
honor to The Macedonia Community Association, 1408 Coffeytown Rd., Vesuvius, VA
24483, since Macedonia was her childhood home church.
