Looking for any information on Reuben Coffee(y), husband of Emily,
son of Ambrose Coffey. Greenup Co. Ky.
Reuben was in the Civil War.
Will share what I have with anyone.
Would like to straighten out the Ambrose Coffeys in this line also.
Thanks. A wonderful site.
Babsy
I am so ready to pull my hair out. someone MUST be related to my Coffey
family!
here we go.
( per 1850 census) Newport city campbell cnty Kentucky
Thomas Coffey age 47 job boilmaker born penn
Jane age 41 KY
warren age 20 Ohio
william age 16 KY
Thomas age 6 Ohio
(per 1860 census) rochester cedar cnty Iowa
Thomas Coffey age 56 job machinist born penn
Jane age 51 VA
Thomas age 15 Ohio
Thomas Coffey is my 2x great grandfather. i know his middle initial is L as
it says that in the 1920 census. middle name is most likely Leonard. I do
not know for sure
I was quite stumped with where he was born. The newspaper article for his
death says he was born near covington KY. However every census record says he
was born in Ohio. checking a map i saw that covington KY is very near the
ohio border. I will now search cincinatti area.
his parents....... wow this was wild. I did find in the 1860 census Thomas
coffey age 15 ( correct age) living with Thomas and Jane Coffey
This 3 person family lived in Rochester cedar county Iowa. We know for
sure that Thomas mustered Enlisted as a Private on 10 August 1862 at the age of
17 He enlisted into Company C, 24th Infantry Regiment Iowa, Thomas Mustered
out Company C, 24th Infantry Regiment Iowa on 17 July 1865 in Savannah, GA
company C 24th Regiment, Iowa Infantry.
You must have further knowedge of the wilford family to know why i feel this
1860 census is my Thomas. During the civil war, Oliver Wilford was
thought by his family to be dead.... as they hadnt heard from him in many
month's .... and were so very sad! Very late on Christmas eve night, the door
suddenly opened, and there was Oliver... with his best friend Thomas Coffey!.
Thomas saw and fell in love with Olivers sister Mary Ann, Love at first sight
and a love that would last nearly 70 years.
Now, Oliver Wilford Enlisted in Company B, 24th Infantry Regiment Iowa on 01
April 1864. Oliver Mustered out Company B, 24th Infantry Regiment Iowa on
17 July 1865 in Savannah, GA. The boys both being from the same state, close to
the same town, traveled home to Iowa together. This makes me 90 % certain
that Thomas's Father was in fact Thomas Coffey sr. as stated on the 1860
census. Family folklore dictates that Thomas's Mothers name was Mary. The census
says Jamie, jane?? cant read it very well. it does not say Mary. Jane/ Jamie
could very well be a stepmother. She is 51 years old, born in Virginia,
Thomas sr is 57, born in Pennsylvania, Thomas Sr. is a machinist
I now have found the 1850 census for this family wow her name is jane.
Thomas had 2 brothers warren and william. the only thing that does not match up
is where jane was born
another thing that is wild on this line of mine is that in the 1930
census, Thomas Jr.s son Leonard Burdette coffey is listed as Lewis Coffey. I know
it is him because wifes name is lucille daughters name is Bernice Pippin and
graandson eugene pippin. why did he use a different name? was lewis the name
of his grandpa maybe? Can anyone help me find the connection to the right
coffeys in penn Big cousin huggz Donna
I would LOVE to see your Ruben Coffey data, particularly any in the VA
line.
I'm also very interested in the Coleman line, especially if anyone has
a Maskie Coleman listed in VA as being married to Bartlett Hawkins or
Bartlett Fitzgerald.

I haven't sent a message to the Coffey list for some time because I haven't seen any postings about my Coffey line. The only person who is in the Martin Coffey line that I have seen post anything lately is Larry Jones. Martin Coffey, 1762-1867 was my GGG Grandfather, James Coffey GG Grandfather, William Martin Coffey G Grandfather, Thomas Coleman Coffey Grandfather and father William Herbert Coffey. We descend from Martin and his 2nd or 3rd wife Nancy Herriford or Herreford. I used to think that it was Hansford, but have since come to believe that this was a misreading of records. One interesting point about Martin's birthdate - most say he was born on Sept. 15, 1762 in either Va. or NC. I recently was searching the 1860 Kentucky census records and found Martin and Nancy living either with or next door to G. W. Coffey and Rebecca in Hustonville, Lincoln County KY. This was obviously Golson Wilson Coffey who was a younger brother of my GG Grandfather James Coffey. Mar!
tin's age was listed as 94 and his birthplace as Va, so if this was true his birth year would have been 1765 rather than 1762. Just curious if anyone has anything new on my Martin Coffey
Thanks,
Richard Herbert Coffey

"LDS Family History Library has announced that it has begun the process
of digitizing and making available on the Internet all of the Family
History books in their collection. About 5000 books have been digitized
and are available, and they have announced that they are adding about
100 titles a week to the on-line collection. Copyright issues are
playing a role in determining the order in which they progress through
this task; books out of copyright are being done first."
