I believe most of this family came from Limerick, Ireland. There is
a tombstone in Maysville, KY in the St. Patrick's Cemetery that has
a Patrick Coffey, born in Limerick. His wife, Ann Coshan, was from O'Clare.
My John Coffey settled in Maysville, KY. Patrick was a witness at the
baptism of one of John's children.

Before going into the history of Thomas Coffey - for which I have 3
sources, I'm going to take a few messages to distribute data from a two
volume set of Irish pedigrees for the portion regarding the Coffee / Coffey
name.
This is way, way back - number 60 mentioning the year AD 285 - how valid
this data is or if it is myth I don't know, so take this with a grain of salt.

My 2xs great grandmother was Mary (Maria) Coffey of the Civil Parish of
Aughrim in County Galway. The "Home place" of this family appears to
have been Boston Farm which is roughly in the Townland of Cloghalla
Eighter. There will be no baptismal record of this woman as she was born
about 1819, too early for the parish records of Aughrim/Kilconnell. Mary
Coffey Burke died on 28 Oct 1892 and was buried in Kilconnell Abbey on
30 Oct..
Mary Coffey had married William Burke of Northbrook, also in Aughrim,
about 1843 and bore 4 children, my great grandmother Catherine, who went
to America in her teens, Mary, John, and Anne. The last three stayed in
Ireland. I have family histories of the 3 up to cousins who currently
live in Aughrim. Mary married Martin Deeley (of Barrymore, Parish of
Aughrim)and bore 14 children, John Burke married 1.) Sarah Delaney (of
Northbrook) and had 3 children, and 2.) Margaret Mannion (of Ballyglass,
Parish of Kilconnell) and had 1 child, and Anne married John Hession (of
Tristaun, Parish of Clontuskert) and had 6 children.
Catherine Burke came to Brooklyn NY in 1860. Am interested in Coffeys
who came to America from around Ballinasloe, particularly
Aughrim/Kilconnell.

Thank you for the information Don, I see we are from the same ancestors. I have Mary Nightingale as Mary Molly instead of Polly. I am decended down from their daughter Elizabeth Coffey 1787-???? who married Christopher Riffe 1764-1850 and their son Peter Bainbridge 1807-1888, his son George C. Riffe 1837-1874, his daughter Roe Ann Riffe 1869-1937 who married James Edward McSparren 1863-1926, their son William Welch McSparren 1904-1954 and his daughter, my mother Anna Marie McSparren Stewart 1924-1996.
I do have a note on a family sheet of Osborne Coffee's listiing his father as William, but no wife's name, so was not sure of it. I do have a posting of banns (I think that is what it is called) between Osborne Coffey and Mary Nightingale listing her father as Mathew (one T) and a teste listed as Lucy Nightingale. This may be a sister or her mother, do you know which? I will look for the book.
Thanks again Don,
Cricket
Your Thomas was the brother of one of my grandfathers (gggg?) William (the
Elder ) Coffey, his father was John ( Mar. ) Jane Graves, and his father was
Edward and maybe his father was John about 1620 born in Ireland. John and Jane
had 9 children. My information came from the book: James B. Coffey Vol.ll:
Ancestors by Marvin D. Coffey

Hi Cricket,
I am of the line of Osborn Coffey 1759 - 1840 m: Mary ( Polly ) Nightingale
1761 - 1847, Osborn was one of the sons of William ( the Elder ) Coffey who
was married to Elisbeth Osborn. They had 10 children another of which was Jane
Coffey, she was one of my grandmothers. Osborn and Mary Polly had 9 children:
Jesse Coffey 1784 -
Matthew Coffey 1790 - ( I'm not shure about the two T's in the spelling)
Lucy Coffey 1792 -
Richard N. Coffey 1795 -
Elizabeth Coffey - unknown
Pats(c)y (again spelling ? ) unknown -
Osborn Coffey unknown -
William Coffey unknown -
John Coffey unknown -
This line goes back to John Coffey 1670 - 1716 and Ann Powell 1683 - 1744
and maybe to John Coffey about 1620 born in Ireland
This data came from the book: James B. Coffey Vol. ll: Ancestors by Marvin D.

offering to post for our examination. Thank you!

COFFEY)
Hi Dot,
In my line of Coffeys, I have Jane Coffey ( my lines ) 2nd husband as
Benjamin Fetzgerald. It is believed that they had a son before they got married and
named him Jordon Fitzgerald Coffey( he is one of my line of grandfathers)
Anyway Janes father was William ( the Elder) Coffey 1731-1838 . William, the
elder, had 10 children one of which was named Edmond F. Coffey 1773-1848 and
he was married to Elizabeth Burger. If you think that this line is connected
with your line let me know as I have 17 pages on this line.

My ancestral COFFEY line also begins (as far as what I have to date) with
Chesley COFFEY through his son, Joel COFFEY. From there, my line descends .
Nebuzaraden>Joel>James A.>Cyrus>Mary Louise (my grandmother). This is in
accordance with what I have been able to piece together so far, but I need more
confirmation about the line. Would you be willing to share your information
with me about this line? I will be happy to send you what I have, but much of it
does not have primary sources to back it up.
