Don't go by old court records on spellings. My name is wrong so many times,
even now after I spell it for them they will do it wrong down in the body of
documents.

Thanks for replying. I hope some of the relatives will contact me.
You should know that many of the Turnbos in Texas spelled their name without
the "w". I know Andrew Turnbo, Felicia's son, did.
Patti
The name is Turnbow, spelled with a "w". Some of the descendants of either
Grace or Felicia live in the McAlester, OK area. They also descend from
John Coffey and Elizabeth Rucker on their maternal.

Wendy, I did send mine as an attachment to the previous email I sent you. I
hope you got it. If it wasn't attached, please let me know and I'll try
again.

I am looking for information on Felicia Coffey's siblings. She married James
Turnbo. and had Andrew J. Turnbo, who married Sarah Spain. They had a
daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Emma Turnbo, who was my husband's grandmother.
She married Jefferson Elwood Nowlin in Fort Worth, TX in 1879.
I have a little information on Felicia's sister, Grace, and one brother,
Nathan, but almost nothing on Mary and the other five boys. Could someone
direct me to a good website for this information?

The following are tombstone inscriptions transcribed from the Waterford
Center Cemetery, Waterford, Oakland County, Michigan. If these names look
familiar I would be interested in any information you might have on these
families. My gggrandmother was Rachel Coffey who married Jacob Terry.
Rachel was born in Vermont, February 20, 1823 and died January 22, 1890 and
Jacob was born in New York, December 22, 1816, died December 26, 1888.
There were also a number of other members of the Coffey family who lived and
died in Oakland County, Michigan. I'd be interesting in hearing from anyone
related to these families.

Does anyone out there know or have in their family information on Cole
Coffey. Possibly from Whitley Co., Kentucky or that area.
My great grandmother Mary Polly Holt and Cole Coffey had a son William Marion
Holt, born Whitley Co., KY April 7, 1837. They were not married. Judging
from Marion's birthdate, Mary and Cole would have been together about July
4, 1836, probably Whitley County, KY.
Mary Polly Holt was born 11/1816 NC or KY, and married Jackson Strunk, in
Whitley Co., Kentucky August 1839. They lived on Marsh Creek and are shown
on 1850 Whitley Co., census with William Marion Holt shown as Marion Strunk
age 13.
William Marion Holt married in Kentucky before or around time of Civil War to
Elizabeth, last name unknown. Older cousins said they had a daughter
together, name unknown or forgotten by living family members. Her maiden
name would have been Holt. Wm Marion Holt married my grandmother Talitha
Cathern Lathrom Feb 1868. In 1894 he found he and Elizabeth, the KY wife
were not divorced, separated from Talitha, and filed for divorce from
Elizabeth. Salt Lake City records show the divorce was granted March 27,
1895, and Salt Lake City records show Marion and Talitha married in Ava, Mo.
March 29, 1895 with their children at their wedding. On that day, their son
General Sherman Holt married Margaret Woods in Ava, Mo. also.
Cole Coffey said to be the brother of Mary Ann Coffey who married Henry
Sellars in Whitley Co., 1842. Mary Ann Coffey and Henry Sellars' son, George
Sellars, married Artimissey Strunk, daughter of Jackson Strunk and Mary
Polly Holt. Mary & Jackson Strunk's daughter Mahulda Strunk married Frank
Sellars in Kentucky.
Looking for information on Cole Coffey's line. And any Holt information on
Mary and William Marion Holt
Joyce Holt Taylor, grandaughter of Wm Marion Holt and great grandaughter of
Mary Polly Holt.

I would appreciate you sending me yours, mine is huge and contains other
family as well. I noticed that we had similar names too! Keep your fingers
crossed. I had to laugh that one of the sons in the obit was named Brewer
(Coffey), also there's the Cupp family mixed in too, lol.
Wendy, this has to be the same family.
I am sending you a Descendancy Report for Edward Coffey, Sr. as an
attachment. I would appreciate your checking it against your own records and
letting me know what you think. Or you can send me a report on your family.
I'm so excited. I know my late husband's family and your family are related.
Not only are we talking about the same Texas area, but the names you mention
seem to be common given names for this family.

Hi Ruth, who is your late husband? Do the names Brewer or DeWitt sound
familiar?
Hi, Wendy,
I would be very interested to know if your James S. Coffey was related to my
late husband's family. His grandfather and his brother were both named James
S. Coffey. We have been trying for years to find out the elder James S.
Coffey's parents. They were from GA and TN. Both James S. Coffeys died, I
believe, in or near Corsicana, TX.

John D. Coffey is a well-known citizen of White County and was born in Macon,
Fayette County, Tenn., June 19, 1838. His father, David P. Coffey, was a
Presbyterian clergyman, and first saw the light of this world in Tennessee in
November, 1805. He was given all the advantages for an education to be had at
that time, and applied himself so assiduously to his studies, that he became
an accomplished and finely educated gentleman. He was married in his native
State November 12, 1835, to Miss Mary C. Cogville (Cogbill), a daughter of
Charlie and Pollie Cogville, and to their union fourteen children were born,
of which John D. is the second child and the oldest son. Of that family seven
are now living, six residing in this State. The Rev. Coffey immigrated from
Tennessee, in 1854, and located near Searcy, where he died in 1883, his good
wife surviving him but two years. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, and
also a Royal Arch Mason, and was the originator of the first church that was
ever organized in Stony Point, the denomination being the Cumberland
Presbyterian. This township, where John D. Coffey now resides, derived its
title from his father, in whose honor it was named. John D. served in the
late war on the Confederate side, and enlisted in 1861, in Douglas County, in
Brown's Tennessee Regiment. His first hard fight was at the battle of Shiloh,
and he also engaged in numerous other engagements. He was captured at Port
Edson, but was soon after paroled, and at once returned home to claim his
promised bride, Miss Malicia (Malissa) G. Harris. After his marriage Mr.
Coffey returned to the war and accompanied Price on his raid through
Missouri, and received his final discharge from service in 1865. To Mr. and
Mrs. Coffey have been born a family of eight children: John H., Mary,
Josephus, Lucy E., David P., Hugh, James S., Minnie C. Mr. Coffey has a good
farm of forty acres, finely stocked, and with all the conveniences and modern
improvements to make the home comfortable. Himself and wife are members of
the Presbyterian Church, and highly respected by every one.
All the notes in parentheses are mine.
John David Coffey died July 13, 1915 in WHITE COUNTY, ARKANSAS
Coffey Township was named for David Pleasant Coffey.
There is also an article on John Reed Coffey the son of Wiley D. Coffey and
Narcissa A. Muse.
Other Coffeys mentioned are: Katie Coffey that wed John Steven Benton;
Elizabeth Coffey that wed William C. Rainey; the men have write ups of their
families and mentions their children.
